Wyrd Sisters is the book that kickstarted my current Pratchett obsession. I love all the Shakespeare nods - and Granny, Nanny and Magrat, of course.

Yeah the two new witches are great and make Granny Weatherwax funnier too.

I loved orbital. Found it a very beautiful, meditative read.

Yes I remember your review. I tend to hate this type of book so I was suprised, perhaps the space station element was enough for me to keep me interested, if it was set on earth I think I might of strugged.

I’ve not read any Elizabeth Jane Howard and you make me want to give her a go. I must also read the rest of the Anne of Green Gables book. Like you, I’m not sure I enjoy experimental literature but I’d be willing to give Orbital a go. Great wrap up Aaron 😊

@@RaynorReadsStuff I think you would like The Light Years by EJH. Orbital was a nice experiment at least

Like you, I never enjoy the Booker winners. Not sure what drew me to Orbital. It is small so maybe I thought it was more accessible? The story interested me and I did love the cover….LOL I’ve just started reading it and I am enjoying it so far. Lovely writing. Lots of lists though.

What usually annoys me about modern literary fiction is the editing/structure, so this just skips those by being short and having no plot.

I'm not familiar with Elizabeth Jane Howard and I don't mind books that seem a little aimless at times, you've sold me on it. yup, i usually feel the same with the booker but less so for the shortlist - definitely half the longlist.

Her later books are slightly less aimless because they are from multiple perspectives, also I think teenagers/early 20s characters generally should be aimless 😁EJH is criminally underrated in my opinion, I think maybe because she had two more famous writers in her family.

I had a box set of Anne books as a kid but can’t remember reading them 🤔and are we three still on for our read of the Cazalet Chronicles, the first one anyway, in 2025?
@AaronReadABookКүн бұрын
@@josmith5992 I wish I read Anne of Green Gables as a kid, I still loved it as an adult though. Yes! Reading this has just made me want to re-read Cazalets even more.

After reading quite a few stinkers that won the Booker, I have decided that I am allergic to all Booker winners. The Pulitzer on the other hand has not let me down especially the non-fiction Pulitzer winners.

Yeah I have a much better record with the Pulizer too, although I haven't read anything recent.
