I absolutely love this trailer. I watch it more than the movie itself. It makes you believe the entire movie is set there. In fact, the people screaming aren't even in the movie. And Jason's actually using his machete. (Which he never even used in the actual film.) It feels like a trailer for a total different version of the movie with a different plot, characters and kills. I wished we got that version instead!

I think they were only allowed a few days to film in NYC, the rest of the film was made in Vancouver Canada. The New York cops in the movie even sound and makes me think of a Canadian.

If I we’re given the chance to rewrite this movie, I would make it so the events on the boat are skipped and then we cut to New York the next day where the local Coast Guard find the boat drifting towards a nearby dock. When the call out if anyone is on board but no answers, two officers board the ship to see if anyone is even in there, only to find nothing but dead bodies on board as well two survivors and a dog, all of whom were unconscious. As the officers carried them off board and get them some help, their are unaware that the killer, Jason is not only still around but has also gotten off the boat when they weren’t looking and has walked off into a nearby alley, thus beginning Jason's rampage in Manhattan.

In my rewrite, the opening would stay the same except the kids would be rescued by local police, but who are in fact mercenary‘s in disguise sent by private macabre collector in New York to retrieve Jason Vorhees. The collector is, in fact, a cult leader that wants to use Jason as a means to gain more power and influence in the underworld of sorcerers and necromancers. He also has ties to the New York mafia so he uses Jason as his private hitman to take out his competition and curry favor with other high ranking sorcerers. Think Jason meets eyes wide shut meets the wicker man. Also there is a New York detective who is messed up due to his time on the force is on the hunt for this society that turns into an obsession. In the process, a young girl on her class trip to New York, discovers Jason on the boat they were on and later season again while touring in Times Square this puts her in mortal danger as the cult cannot have any witnesses to Jason or the society so now Jason is hunting her down. The young girl, and the detective team up to survive I’m not only an undead killer loose on the streets of Manhattan, but also the society that is everywhere and nowhere.

I saw this at my local movie theatre, nobody including myself would have expect this to be a horror movie. But when we saw Jason turning around with his machete, and the narrator saying Friday the 13th Jasson takes Manhattan. Everybody including me in that theatre was laughing our asses off!!! It was hilarious!!!

I was eight years old in the theater to see _Star Trek V: The Undiscovered Country_ and they showed this trailer. I remember being absolutely terrified and my dad suddenly placing his hand over my eyes after the Jason reveal, and a bunch of guys behind me howling with glee. Can’t say it’s a favorite memory, but damn this trailer shouldn’t have been played for a Star Trek movie, Jesus. But looking at it now, it’s a hilarious way to introduce a horror film. 😂

Frank Mancuso, Jr. got less involved with the movie franchise by this time. He was more consumed with the TV series. It didn’t help that the MPA was much tougher on slasher movies than they had been. The reality is that Paramount never wanted to invest much in the movies. They were always just some cash cow to them.
