Official self help megathread discussing my mispronunciation of Dynamix
@campisimike3 жыл бұрын
Join the club. 15-year-old me was also pronouncing it dyna-mix because we had no not develop good English wording yet and didn't catch the phonetic play on the word dynamics
@CommanderGrog3 жыл бұрын
You immediatly managed to make me question my pronounciation of Dynamix. Thank god it's the correct one! 😂
@DudeWatIsThis3 жыл бұрын
I'm Spanish. There's was an old publisher here in Spain in the 90's called "Dinamic multimedia". It was pronounced dee-nah-meek. "Dinamic" is supposed to be an English word (in Spanish, it would be "dinámica" here). So they spelled it wrong and said it wrong, but nobody realized it and/or nobody gave a crap. Ah, the 90's.

This (along with Snatcher) was one of my favorite Sega CD games.
@crimsontide1980 Жыл бұрын
I always heard such good things about Snatcher several years after the Sega CD was left behind. I tried a few times to buy a copy but I couldn't find one for less than $90 so I just kinda forgot about it. About 5 years ago I was looking through a stack of Sega CD games at a flea market and I saw Snatcher, albeit not in ts original case. I haggled him down to $30, was so excited to finally try it put after all these years. It absolutely lived up to the hype, loved the character development, narration, storyline, at the awesome atmospheric music. Only Kojima could think something like this up. One of my favorite games for certain.

A list of good Sega CD games: Lunar 1 & 2, Popful Mail, Willy Beamish, Shining Force CD, Silpheed, Eternal Champions, Wonder Dog, and Sol Feace. I would even say Panic!, but that's more of a curiosity than a game.

Very nice overview. I had finished the original version over a decade earlier, but when I learned the Sega version had full voice acting, I decided to check it out and ended up finishing it over the course of four days. Most of the voice acting is indeed above average, so I had fun playing it a second time.

I played the PC version of this game back in the day and absolutely loved it. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes this style of game in whatever version you are able to get your hands on. Oh, and another fun fact: Cam Clarke also did the voice of ace Veritech Pilot Max Sterling from Robotech, the Americanized version of the animes Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeada all combined into one (long story). I highly recommend this too if you're into big mecha anime! Thanks for the great video and stay safe out there!

Dynamic did some great games. My favorite of them was an action rpg on PC called Betrayal at Krondor, based on the Raymond E Feist novels. Huge, sorta open world rpg, with a great battle platform. Hated the inventory management but loved all the ways you could augment your weapons.

Yet another game that I have had for ages. One of these years I'm going to have to sit down and play through it. Bought a Sega CD/32X combo (and a 3DO and a Jag and so on) in 2005 or 2006, back when all those consoles were under a hundred dollars. So it's not the first game that sat on the shelf forever. I had the GBA version of Tales of Phantasia sitting around for well over ten years before playing it. Now that is a good game, especially the PS1 version.

Great review of an awesome game. Sega cd is my favorite system to collect for. 🤟🔥🎃
@crimsontide1980 Жыл бұрын
Every time I read comments from others talking about how much of a disappointment or failure the Sega CD was, I just laugh to myself. In my eyes there were a ton of gems for that console. 3 of my favorite games ever were released on it (Secret of Monkey Island, Rise of the Dragon, and Adventures of Willy Beamish), plus the definitive version of Earthworm Jim, Snatcher, Sonic CD, Mortal Kombat, Jurassic Park(I know most people hates it but I was obsessed with it as a teen) , both the Lunar games, Eternal Champions Challenge From the Darkside, etc. I wasn't a big fan of most of the gimmicky full motion video games, well except fpr Prizefighter, reminded me so much of Raging Bull.

Oh cool. I've heard about this recently, but I can't remember where. Doesn't matter though, because I could watch Blade Runner inspired retro games all day long. I don't know what it is but there's a few of them (like Beneath a Steel Sky and Snatcher), they're all VERY BLATANT about it, they're all adventure games, and they're all pretty cool looking with some great pixel art and presentation in general. Whenever someone decides to talk about a retro Blade Runner-inspired title, it's definitely worth a look - they haven't gone wrong yet! I never had a Sega CD, but it is interesting to learn about the quality that can be found on the thing. Besides some obvious assumptions like Shining Force CD or LUNAR The Silver Star anyway. I wish you luck with your quest to uncover some cool hidden gems in the things library!

Don't know why people complain about FMV voice acting. It got worse for the next 20 years. Right up to 10 years ago, the games I played, had horrible voice acting, much worse then FMV, and they had only a handful of actors so you recognize voices constantly. I mostly play RPGs so I can't vouch much for other genres, but RPGs are pretty much dead now and I blame the voice acting. And as for the visuals, FMV actors moved and were real because they were real, while the death of FMV introduced the rise of static anime images and fan service.
@tommyhatcher33993 жыл бұрын
Lots of people made videos on the downfall of Sega. They all got it wrong. The downfall of Sega was brought on by the SJW outrage and cancel culture of today, only back in 1990. To oversimplify for clarities sake, Mortal Kombat on Genesis had blood while the SNES did not. That was Sega. A edgy hedgehog. To continue with the oversimplification, Sega CD was Night Trap, a very tame horror movie but a horror movie nonetheless, and "concerned parents" killed it and Sega. That's it right there. In 1992 it was for Sega with the Night Trap lawsuits and controversary. It killed what the Sega CD could do and what Sega were willing to do. And to completely prove my point objectively, Resident Evil.
@SonofSethoitae3 жыл бұрын
I don't know that I believe those hearings had as much to do with the failure of the Sega CD as all the shovelware and poor price point did. Typically, controversy makes things _more_ popular

When I think of the Sega CD I think about it costing $300 ($571 today) back in 92 and laugh. Even a 10 year old kid could see the Sega CD for $299.99 was a stupid price for a piece of tech that would be obsolete in a year or two at most.
