Good morning! Me and Chris are very busy. We just got home yesterday and we are cleaning up Hurricane Helenes mess. I wanted to post this because it is apple season. And we need some time to take care of the house. Thanks, Tammy

Food memories are some of the best. They makes us think of holidays, birthdays and other special occasions. And they make us think of the people we enjoyed the food with -- family.

Girl! If you like some spice add a few red hot candies. It really is good and the red hots bring the cinnamon!!!! My husband dearly loves acorn squash. I make those by just cutting then in half, clean them out then lay then on a baking sheet open side up and add butter and red hot candies. He goes crazy for them. I Just take a spoon and make sure the inside is coated with the butter red hot sauce a few times during baking. Try it, but not to many red hots if you don't like their kick. I use about a heaping tablespoon per half, but my husband likes the red hot kick.

Growing up I never learned how to cook cause momma was sick alot. I remember all our nannies, maids and helpers we had. My favorite one was Beverly cause she had a daughter my age. It was hard seeing my momma sick and still trying to do stuff with us. When she wasn't sick she did alot and everything with us. Beverly and her 2 kid's was always with us threw out the years..

My granny called them "snit pies." The dried apples were called "snits" and that may be German--I'm not sure. She used these little Early Transparent apples that were small and greenish white and very tart, but oh so delicious with sugar and butter added. That added the "sour" that Tammy mentioned, which is also kind of German. Granny used Jiffy piecrust mix and probably Crisco to fry with and hers were more like an 7" folded round piece of dough. Just plain with no cinnamon inside or out and the piecrust mix was very flaky. Granny and that apple tree are long gone, but the memories live on.

Praying for safety during this second hurricane. As awful as the first one was I’m hoping you guys will be extra cautious and move away for the storm at its awful destruction. I’ve never had to deal with hurricanes. In our part of the world we have tornadoes. Be safe good people❣️🙏🏻

Good morning Tammy I’ve made fried pies many times and I just can’t seem to keep them crisp. I fry them exactly like you do and cool them exactly the same way but for some reason, they never stay crisp. What is your secret? Do you pop them in the air fryer for a few minutes if they’ve cooled completely down and been out for a while?

Oh these look so good! I think I will use honey crisp apples to make these. I used the honey crisps to make Thanksgiving pie last year and they were so delicious in that pie. I’ve never made these before so I’m going to use what I’m comfortable with. Definitely putting the cinnamon and sugar on top! So glad to see you are safe and well after the hurricane! I was sending good thoughts your way.
