Is that 1/4 cup of oil in it or in the pan
@ConniesCookingChannel
@ConniesCookingChannel 2 жыл бұрын
@@JARISHA100 Yes, 1/4c should be enough oil to fry the cornbread. Thanks for the question; God bless you.

My grandfather(born 1917) showed me how to make these on a literal garden hoe. He said it was the same way his granddad taught him. We didn't use the eggs and kept the milk in a mason jar in the creek. We worked in the garden a few hours, then washed the hoe in the creek, got it hot in the fire. We added some bacon grease to the mix and put some on the hoe. He wanted me to know how they had a quick hot lunch when share cropping away from home. Simple days and I miss them. He taught me how to plow with a mule at 9 years old; because "I might need to someday."

Talking about cooking greens. I made turnip greens once for my late mother and she enjoyed them. Sometime later she was about to tell me how to cook turnip greens and suddenly remembered the ones she had had. She then said," but I don't need to tell you how to cook turnips". The finest compliment I have ever had.

Years ago, I somehow added baking soda instead of baking powder to my cornbread batter. It baked up like a big rubber pencil eraser. I swear, the Donner Party would have passed on that thing. "No thanks, we'll just keep boiling the rocks and eating our neighbors."

@cattuslavandula There’s a big difference between baking soda and baking powder. I usually add baking soda to my beans; it decreases the “gas.” Baking powder’s purpose is to help with the “rise” of ingredients. Thanks for watching the video and leaving a comment. God bless you.❤️

I saw a video for a primitive form of hoecakes and so I wondered what a more modern recipe would entail. I wonder if you could just mix some Jiffy cornbread mix and pancake mix

Very similar to how my mom and grandma made them. They used self rising flour though. Any benefits to the AP flour and baking powder? So good!

@Tony Scott - great question. Self-rising flour contains baking powder, which is a leavening agent. Whereas, all-purpose dos not include baking powder. Also, self-rising contains salt. In addition, due to the salt content, the taste varies between the products. As your mom, my mother also used self-rising flour. Have a great day and I appreciate your comment.
