Ganapathi Bappa Morya! Ganesh Chaturthi is on Friday, the 25th of August 2017 and how can we not make Modaks for our lovely Lord Ganesha. Today, I'm going to make Fried Modaks, or Talniche Modak which is made with a filling coconuts, mawa, sugar and nuts. The recipe is pretty easy and we're going to shape them with hands and not using any type of modak mold / mould.

Ingredients for Fried Khova Coconut Modak :
Maida - 2 CupsGhee - 4 tbsp
Salt - as per taste
Water - for the dough
Coconut - 1/2 cup
Sugar - 2/3 cup
Mawa - 1/2 cup
Chopped Nuts - 1/4 cup
Cardamom - 1 tsp
Recipe Makes : 18 - 22 Modaks

Thank you so much for this video. I made them for Lord Ganesha on Halloween night. It took a long time to make them, but they turned out much better than the first time I tried to make them. I even gave some to my manager at work. She's from India and she's been so good to me, I shared them with her. Both her and her husband liked them. I'll be sure to make them for Ganesha on special occasions 🐘❤️

How long it lasts crispy outer layer? I think it can become soft after some time???

Not at all, Vibha. If the stuffing is cooked like the way I showed, they will retain the crispness. Infact, I made 2 batches before shooting this video and they are still crispy, it's been 8 days. I've kept them in an airtight box.

+Shalini Soobrayen You can make mawa at home or skip it all together. If you plan to skip Mawa reduce sugar to 4 tbsp.

Although you can use condensed milk, it can get very sticky if not used in right amount. Do not add sugar if using condensed milk

Ahh, won't be able to shoot now as my kitchen is under maintenance and renovation. You can try chocolate modak by making a filling of chocolate and condensed milk. For that - mix chocolate-condensed milk in 2:1 weight ratio, melt together. Let cool and make small portions. Fill in rice dough for steaming and maida dough for frying :)
