Yes, I'm finally in Japan!
My first meal in Japan was at a tonkatsu pork restaurant, and I could see why it was highly rated. The pork was perfectly crispy and so juicy. I really loved the pork over rice, and you can't go wrong with the tonkatsu sandwich.
After 3 pork dishes, I was in the mood for some ramen. I ordered 2 bowls: Yuzuratan ramen and Yuzu Tsuyu Tsukemen (dip ramen). I really loved how in the spicy ramen, the noodles just soaked up all the broth.
Finally, since I was in Harajuku, I had to end the night with some dessert. Harajuku is known for crepes, so I went to a location that had an assortment of choices. I got the blueberry cheesecake crepe. Yeah... maybe a bit heavy after the 2 dinners I finished. Anyhow, it was amazingly crispy, and the tartness of the blueberries in combination with the soft cheesecake made it the perfect combination!

Maaan. Mike can eat like an anime character. Like Goku or Kirby. This guy had tonkatsu 3 ways and pork belly then proceeded to have 2 large bowls of ramen in the same night. But right when you thought it was over. SIKE. He gets a cheesecake crepe. Holy crap.

Hi Mikey, I've been a long time fan of your videos, and I rarely ever comment on KZbin videos in general, but I wanted to recommend a katsu restaurant that I fell in love with during my time in Japan. The restaurant is called Yabaton, which specializes in a special katsu called misokatsu. There's chains throughout Japan, but the origin of the dish is in Nagoya. In my opinion, the dish is pretty consistent across the locations. If you ever get the chance, I'd highly recommend you try it on one of your future trips. The pork katsu is extremely juicy and fatty on the inside while retaining its crispiness, and the dark miso sauce that it's smothered in has a slightly earthy and sweet flavor that complements the katsu extremely well. If you ever go, I'd recommend getting the misokatsu on the sizzling plate as a combo. Each time I've visited Japan, I've made it a must go to meal for myself. It's a dish that I sometimes dream about, and even though I get worried sometimes I hype myself too much for it on subsequent trips, the dish never fails to satisfy each time. Sorry for rambling so much, but if you're ever back in Japan again, I can guarantee it'll be worth your time. Thank you so much for making such awesome videos!

Holy cow, that's an awesome idea, @jsalustiano jsalustiano! I'd love to see Mikey vs Yuka! It'd be like an episode of "Epic Rap Battles of History" except with no rap and a ton of food! I think the only problem is that Yuka doesn't speak a lick of English, so it would be hard for them to communicate and work something out together. I saw Yuka make a guest appearance on a Canadian-based KZbinr channel, and she could barely speak a word to them. It was kind of awkward when they asked her questions and she just kind of nodded, as she had no clue what they were saying, haha!

That Friends reference with the oyakodon perfectly sums up the dish! For someone new to the dish-how can a deep fried pork (technically should be chicken) cutlet thats been drenched in sauce and egg mixture then steamed be good? Well, when he used Monica, Rachel, Phoebe, Chandler, Joey & Ross he just described it perfectly! Its really good!

Ahhh a ramen vending machine! I need this! Mike please would love a video tour: how the ramen vending machine works. TIA

Guinevere Pendragon most of the ramen shops in Japan, even small ones have a machine to pay for your orders. Most of the machines also have English subtitles and pictures. Basically you put your money, press the one that you like and it will print out a small paper stating your order that you would give to the people working there or cooking the ramen.

Thanks Xany SideUp. I see it's a form of ordering. I have heard that there are also vending machines for many things in Japan as well.

How do the vending machine works? Select and pay,so when you go inside they take your receipt, and bring food? We have nothing like this in the USA. Mike really needs to explain this phenomenon.

Yup, that's how it works. 1. you insert money, pick your ramen, get ticket. 2. Hand ticket to staff. 3. ENJOY!!! From my understanding the reasoning behind it, is that it saves time and money since they don't need to employ someone to take orders and to cash you out. It's another example Japanese ingenuity and innovation.

James Laforme ...another reason is the workers won't be handling money and delivering your food thus cutting cross contamination from those supposedly dirty bills.
