Not really related to aerating but I work at a local course and you may already know this but mowing in different directions every day is very beneficial to the health of the green. Our pattern is 4 to 10, 2 to 8, then 6 to 12 (on a clock). Hope it helps:)
@scubastevesmith71087 жыл бұрын
We have also done this since we started mowing be thanks

At my course we punch with a quarter inch tine three times a year. It causes less damage and heals much quicker while giving the same benefits overall. We are in Monterey, Ca and have Bent grass greens.

@tommywt18 жыл бұрын
There are many ways to aerate. Hollow tines(which is what you used) and solid tines, which are a lot less messy. There are even water aerators that use high pressure water to poke holes. Aerating also helps with compaction; Mowing, rolling, foot traffic all contribute to that.
@FriedEggsGolf8 жыл бұрын
tommywt1 thanks Tommy!
@bseely7726 жыл бұрын
The problem with solid tines is that they don't actually remove material. Tines compress the ground and can cause other problems. Solid cores are the way to go. You can also get smaller holes. 3/8" vs 5/8" for example. Good job and I love your channel!
@rydnskyhigh7 жыл бұрын
1 down...17 to go! I applaude the hard work for every greens keeper that does this every year. I know people hate this time of year but it pays off. Good job. Get a mechanical spreader if you can, to spread the sand out evenly and a mechanical sweeper that will attach to a small tractor. That's what they do around here to take the load off.

Don't fill the holes with sand if the ground takes up (a lot of) water, you'll get bumps due to the ground expanding when it takes up the water. By punching holes your lawn gets to breath. After punching the holes you can topdress your lawn with sand or a soil mix with sand (example sand/compost: 50/50). Some of that wil get in the holes by itself, it's ok. Not filling the holes will give the ground the option to expand with heavy rainfall in some periods of the year preventing choking the lawn. By not filling the holes water drains best too.

How rough were the putts after the aeration? Maybe create some roller for next year. Surely there is a simple DIY option (round garbage can and concrete, or something). A way to help smooth out the core holes and speed up the green from time to time.

Ive seen this done in tennessee with a much smaller width punch and sanded correctly in which the greens ran perfect even though full of sand....Also its funny how some really nice courses do this once a year and have amazing greens and allow winter golf. yet crappy courses punch 2 times a year and are anal about winter golf and have terrible greens.
