Translation
Narrator: Just one hour until the performance. A renewal actually, except for Friedemann Vogel, for him it’s a premiere tonight. For the first time he is going to dance the main part of Onegin at his home theatre.
Friedemann: “I grew up with Onegin. I was a frequent spectator since I was five. Then, I attended the John Cranko School. So you actually can say I saw that ballet a thousand times since I was young. Onegin is such a huge ‚thing‘, and suddenly, I do it myself - and then in Stuttgart! Have to admit, that was kind of… ahhh! Yes, a magic moment indeed!“
Narrator: It’s a piece about unrequited love, about pride, sorrow and death. The one who dances Cranko, understands him, says Friedemann Vogel.
Friedemann: “The name of Cranko will always go on. His name continues to live within his ballets, because they are masterpieces. It’s really hard to describe why it is actually such a masterpiece… It’s like with a painting, there you can’t describe why Mona Lisa’s smile is so beautiful. And that’s the same with Onegin, Cranko will continue to live through this ballet, and although I never had the chance to get to know him, he is unbelievably close.“
Narrator: Friedemann and Alicia. They both would have loved to dance for Cranko.
Friedemann: Definitely, the ballets are breathtaking, and they are dance in its purest form. It’s just on point, and it has all what it needs to make a dancer happy. And, what is much more important, the audience, so they can dive into the story.“
