It always blows my mind when I see a guitarist that I take for granted would be the dropout party dude and they turn out to be someone who can rap for hours about the nuance of tone, and playing styles and stuff. I am nowhere, never practicing, never learned modes and scales, and here this dude is spectacular and probably has thousands of times the hours I practice in. Total respect.

I'm assuming the 1976 amp he's referring to is the grill-grate-front Marshall JMP. That amp sounds GOOD.

Awesome interview video Mike! Well done man, Phil X is a legend. And a lot smarter player than he seems to get credit for (I'm sure that's intended & is actually pure genius). The Friedman amp is just like the ultimate rock sound, super articulate, classic mid grind with balls for days! ...Yeah, it's definitely on the GAS list. :)

I can't understand how Phil doesn't have Gibson banging down his door? He's more popular and influential as a guitarist, than any 'regular' musician. If you play guitar at all, have an internet connection, and like to rock, you know Phil. I've looked and looked and can't find anyone who sells Framus guitars. But you can buy a Gibby anywhere. And he so clearly wants a hotrodded SG:-)
@Todesnuss
@Todesnuss 8 жыл бұрын
The thing is Framus guitars are disgustingly well made. A Gibson wouldn't necessarily be an upgrade to that, so for him personally I think he's got what he needs with them. As for avaliabilty, that's not really something he should have to care about.

HulktastickFTW Thomann has Framus and I'm pretty sure it's easy to get stuff from them in the uk. Don't think they regularly carry Devins sig though, it's way to specialized to have in the regular inventory.

Or an EQ - So long as all of your tone goes through the loop of course. Had amps in the past that only sent 50% into the loom... not great really. I'm on a JCM800 2210 these days, i'm pretty comfortable but a BE-100 does sound mega sexy.

It’s weird. Love where Phil’s heads at on what he wants out of an amp, pedals etc bit when I got to try a Phil X model I did not like it all. Felt it didn’t deliver a lot of what he talks about here. I feel Friedman for most of his amps is the Marshall that has been smoothed and refined but has lost the wildness. Many folks love it but I prefer the original, angrier messy sounding amps. Some of the older modded Marshall clips from before the BE100 are pretty terrific though.

All these distorted high gain amps make everyone sound the same and there's never any headroom and the resonance is too tight . Listen to Achilles Last Stand from Page . Big sound that goes on forever on the solo with not too much distortion though I understand about wanting the snarly sound . On here , on KZbin it sounds a bit too fuzzy . Just my 2 cents . Johnny G
