This reminds me of Sansom Park here in northwest Fort Worth, opposite Lake Worth. Eight miles of trails up and down the escarpment. Exhausting after a while. Nevertheless, there are some great overlooks to one of the branches of the Trinity River. Gord

@@cyclingtexas1670 I use the All Trails app to find trails. There are several biking trails and hiking trails in the area. On the west side of Fort Worth there are some rolling hills and with those you get some escarpments overlooking rivers. But most of it is fairly flat to the east. Marion Sansom Park is along West Fork Trinity River right at the far end of Lake Worth where the Carswell Joint Airfield Base is located. Downtown Fort Worth, along the same West Fork Trinity River also has extensive bike and hike trails. Although it is flat, it's pretty interesting because downtown Fort Worth is lodged in right where the Clear Fork Trinity River and the West Fork Trinity River meet. All along the river are parks you can ride through that are completely separate from the hustle and bustle of the downtown area. This area has been around for decades and a few of the trees are big, going back maybe 200 years. Back when Fort Worth was still a fort. This area world give you the most video photo opportunities and is extensive enough for a good ride through the area. But it is mostly flat. The further north you go up to Wichita Falls, the Red River, and into Oklahoma... is all rolling ending in flat. West of Fort Worth takes you into the beginning of messas, giant windmills, and then the ultimate flatness of Lubbock. It doesn't get very interesting until you get into the interior of New Mexico. Frankly, I would check out more of the area east of DFW, within the Tyler, Palestine, and Nacogdoches triangle. This has beautiful rolling hills amidst piney woods and forests. Tyler State Park has some big trees, lots of rolling hills, and great autumn foliage in late October and early November. This year the leaves seem to turning color about two weeks later than usual. I expect late November going into possibly early December for peak foliage. We are already at mid October and the trees here have just begun to show some signs of of light green turning somewhat yellowish. This usually happens two weeks earlier. The last leaves to turn are the Texas Red Oaks and that offer the best color here in northwest Texas. Just some thoughts, Gord

@@gorrdd very good information, thanks! I’ve been wanting to see places like Tyler, nacogdoches and caddo lake but it’s such a far drive for a day trip. One day!

@@cyclingtexas1670Andrew, I might suggest camping out in Tyler State Park for a night in order to see the area over two days. Again, just a thought. It's a good half days drive from where you are. Gord
