USAA is on I-10 and it’s been there since 1976. Everyone living in SA knows the location. I lived on the SW side by Castroville Rd for about 10 yrs, then by Commerce and Gen. McMullen for another 15 years. Then on the West Side on Delgado St close to Zarzamora for around 12 years and the last 10 years on the NW by I-10 and Vance Jackson. So I’ve had my share of traffic.

When I was a kid, I lived in the Woodstone/Northern Hills area off of Nacogdoches and in high school, lived in Garden Ridge… so I always believed the NE side was good. Now, traffic is terrible on the NE side and I really wouldn’t want to live around there anymore. Today, I live near Calaveras and mostly shop and spend time around Brooks City Base.. I much prefer the Brooks City Base area over most other parts of town today. Less traffic, good food and everything else you need day to day. Brooks City Base is also being developed into a really nice area, so that’s also a plus. My vote today is SE San Antonio as my favorite part of town.

Hey Chris! Totally agree with you with traffic being heavy on the NE side. As Austin and San Antonio Corridor is closing, traffic is getting worse. They are expanding 35 so hopefull y it will help. Yeah, native San Antonian who lived on every side of town here. I was bewildered at the description of Brook City Base (the shops are pretty ordinary and it's honestly pretty ghetto. The West Side, Southside (to a lesser extent & a decent chunk of it has improved) and East Side are (I hate to be so blunt but are) normatively hood AF. But ESPECIALLY the Eastside, yeah there's moderately gentrified areas, but I lived in that area for a bit and two roommates got mugged & there were several drive-bys on or near my street at night. The urban Southside and West side have good spots but you gotta call it how it really is, and Eastside is mad rowdy. Wouldn't recommend anyone move there. Yeah you could buy a real cheap older house, but at what cost to your safety? I will say however that his description of the Far West Side (aka the Northwest Side), Schertz area, and Terrell Hills was good though. Alamo Ranch, 1604 North, Stone Oak, and further north like Live Oak are my favorite parts of greater San Antonio. Also Alamo Heights and Broadway. THESE are the best areas my city has to offer, in my opinion, unless you wanna live in the country just outside SA like in Helotes or Medina County.

It's sad, but the SE side USED to be one of the nicer sides of town. My mom grew up on that side, going to Catholic School in those areas all from grade school to HS. I definitely think there was a shift during the 70s and 80s because more people started moving to the North side, especially the NW side of town. Nice video, but you forgot two other factors- Schools and Safety. My family moved out of SA into Wilson County for those 2 reasons. I do think the areas mentioned in that article are good ones, but yeah you definitely need to do your research. Like if I were to move back to SA, I would want to live near family and focus on the North Central side of town. You forgot NorthStar Mall for North side when mentioning shopping. And this could have fallen into both North or West side, but you forgot the Shops at La Cantera and the Rim near Six Flags.

I'm a military brat. I used to live on an airforce base. When I went out on my own though, I lived in the Glen on the northeast side of San Antonio. That's basically crackville. Also, I generally hate Leon Valley. That armpit subsection of San Antonio is a big fucking joke because of all the corrupt cops pulling people over for the dumbest shit. I always avoid it whenever I can. My favorite parts of San Antonio are the parks. McAllister is my most favorite but I tend to go to Phil Hardberger an awful lot. Wurzbach Parkway is my favorite place to drive because it's like a time-trial in a video game. Super smooth highway, barely any traffic, looks beautiful at night or after a light rain.

Helotes & boerne are not far west. they are far NW. I say this not to nitpick but because boerne is over 30 miles from the real far west side out at potranco/ 90 areas. A more accurate way to explain the areas would be N ( between 10 and 35), NW ( between 151 and 10 ) NE ( between 35 and 10 ) W ( between 151 and 90 ) SW (between 90/35) S ( between 35 and 37) and SE ( between 37 and 10 ) I've lived here my whole life and the difference in the subsectors is very much there. though most notable outside 410 ( at least between 90 and 35 on the northern side. life in the NW is going to be a different lifestyle than that of the W or N side. this is largely because the highways are like dividing lines and people don't usually go between them on the daily since they are so spread out. for example. Old town Helotes is a nice more laid back vibrant shopping place just past O'Connor HS, that people on the Far NW side can go to very easily, but someone from the N or W side might find it a hassle to get to & and you lumped them in the same region which might be a little misleading with how spread out things are, I've heard this kind of thing is even more extreme in other parts of town as well. just something to think about.

Easy. Look how many students graduate from collage and the SAT/ STAAR scores. Look at the neighborhood. Are their cheap, KB homes? Alamo Heights, Boerne, and Comal are the best. MacArthur, Reagan, and Johnson are great in NEISD. O'Connor is OK. According to teacher friends, lots of fights at the poorer middle schools and high schools, because invasion of gangs are allowed and poverty. Many students on their phones. The districts feel sorry for them? Many schools districts do not take education seriously, the schools are crowded, and they are babysitters. Many parents think working fast food or at HEB is a career. Keystone, St. Mary's, TMI, and St. Luke's are good private schools. Good Catholic schools like Antonian and St. Anthony's. One has to be wealthy to live in San Antonio and to live in a nice neighborhood. Still cheaper than Austin.

@@alfredonolasco3527 I think it’s neighborhood specific. Most of the comments say North side is the safest but there are some rough neighborhoods in the north side. Same with south side, there are comments on my other videos that say south is the worst, I’ve seen both bad and really nice neighborhoods in the south side. I would drive around the different areas and look at the commercial stores around it. If you see Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s, you’re probably pretty safe. If you see closed gas stations and run down corner stores with graffiti, you should be careful. Hope that makes sense

People who live in the Northside tend to live 20 years longer. One has to send their children to Boerne, Alamo Heights, or Johnston/Reagan to get a decent public education. Comal ISD is still OK. Stay North of 1604 to stay with professional people, unless you want to pay $20,000+ in property taxes in '09. Lots of aggressive drivers who appear to be transplants. Long wait at hospitals, as their appear to be a lot of illegals.

Boy, San Antonio Suburb selling houses. And two more people that have no clue. Yes, San Antonio was pretty much segregated in the first half of the 20th Century. East Side Black ( inside 410 now), West side, downtown to now 410 mostly Mexican, the rest, mostly white. All that changed when " urban renewal" happened with the coming of Hemisfair in the late 60s. Large swaths of old and some historic housing was leveled by the GGL, read Democrats under their false name. A mixture of Democrats, Socialists, and Communists which by law are not allowed to go by their actual party names took rise at this time. The inner west side was next for renewal during the 70s. You take people's houses and they have to go live somewhere else. San Antonio is very much diversified now with a mingling of all races and cultures, even the Mexican Mafia. Your chance of being mugged in the early 2000s were equal opportunity in all areas of the city. Now, since the late 80s all the illegal aliens have moved in with the aid of the Communist Council and they are disbursed equally throughout the city to this day. So you all get your stories together and remember, San Antonio has a past and a present, but no future with the Socialists and Communists running the city. A native.....

i moved out of san antonio in 2016 once i finished my masters at UTSA and got a job in dallas. every time i return to san antonio i am disappointed. it used to be a unique city with a small town vibe, now it represents everything i hate about living in dallas. terrible traffic and a never ending development and destruction of the once beautiful land. the charm is gone and has been replaced by corporate consumerism and cookie cutter suburban sprawl.
