This is so unlikely to happen to Serbian family !!!! Usually, family is there to help unconditionally!!!! It can only be explained by the fact that they are in total shock and they don't think rationally at the moment. Serbian media and Serbian public openly criticize her mother for showing no signs of devastation and no grief. We have two children together and I left because of the abuse verbal and physically when my children were both just a newborn and toddler. Hello, do you believe in God? Ask for help from him. I would start counseling. Obtain a divorce not just be separated. If you can not afford a divorce your state should have assistance based on your income. Start a journal. Save any communication between him in a journal. Date your journal entries. Save all communication especially e-mails. Do you communicate with him regarding the children now? Start, so he can not claim he was parent alienated by you. You should arrange a neutral person to go with your children to the prison like a grandparent. You ideally should never have to see him but in court. Communication of custody should always be in an e-mail or certified letter. Do not contact or communicate with him or any family or friends of his without writing it down in your journal. Do not communicate without email or certified letter, to even their friend or family member. Never discuss anything negative about their Dad to your children. Once he gets out of prison, (or even in) always document all visits and if the child/children said anything. Keep all adult matters away from your children. Be a good parent. Read books, take classes and even earn certification from the parenting classes. Be positive to your children. Never have patterns on your life. Go to work and etc different everyday. Secure your home with good locks etc. Get a guard dog. By a gun and learn how to use it. Take classes that will help you defend yourself like karate. Make friends with your neighbors. Once the ex is out, be accommodating on the custody agreement. If he really wants him for Thanksgiving, then let him. You can celebrate Thanksgiving with your children a week early. Pray. Have good relationships with your family members. I have had some go to his side because he is a liar and manipulated them. Never talk to him on the phone. If you do, tape it. Custody exchanges always a neutral party. Don't drink alcohol in excess, do drugs etc.. If you party, write it down in journal. Don't in excess. If you have a man over don't let your children around them until you are very serious. Hopefully you reside in a county and have a judge that likes women. Wear cream, white or pink to court. Never change your mind and think he has changed. Take care of yourself. Lastly, whatever your negatives, fix them. You can do this. I know it is difficult being a single Mom and trying to do all these things. Good luck to you.

I have never been married, but I would say get a home security alarm, have cameras inside and outside your house, get a dog (a big one), get a gun and get trained how to use it, but keep it in a safe, locked place away from the kids and don't let your ex know you have it, always have another person (preferable a male) go with you whenever you have to interact with your ex, let the police know that your abusive ex is now out of prison and you are concerned and ask them to check on you and your house occasionally, have a 911 button on your phone, put mace and an alarm on your keychain, tell the kids' school that NO ONE can EVER pick up the kids except for you (tell the school about your ex who is now out of prison), take normal precautions, such as always walk in well-lit, populated areas, go out in groups with your female friends, let everyone know of your concerns, get a restraining order if you need to, but don't 100% rely on it.

Self-defense training, concealed weapon permit, home security cameras, sensors, lights. Always share your location with someone you trust. Sew an air tag to your child's shoe or buy a piece of tracking jewelry if you are worried he will try to pick the kids up somewhere. And lastly, Private investigators are always nice to utilize Someone said some of these but they are so useful that I'm encouraging you to do them as well. Take care and please be safe!

Divorce laws need to be changed so this won't happen so often. A man pays for a house and devotes his income and other resources to his wife. The wife eventually "gets bored" and files for divorce. She automatically gets the house (that she probably didn't put one nickel into) , alimony, and half the husband's money. On top of that, the husband has to keep paying the mortgage on the house while the new boyfriend she was probably cheating with moves in. The husband has to pay for a house that he can't even go to, and most likely can't even see his kids. And people wonder why men kill their ex-wives.
