Amon Jones former lead singer and arranger for greats hits like Operator, Jobe, and Near the cross died in Cleveland oh. December 2010. One of the greatest baritones who also played and song with such groups like the Womack brothers. and Shield brothers. Who also begin a comtemporay gospel group with three of his son's Lawrence, Donald and Karl Jones along with lead guitarist Wayne Harwick also a former member of the Frindly brothers called Sprit Gospel singers. In the early 70's

this song was done in 1949 they didn't have anything like tmt had a woman singing the lead with a big voice and money to make it a big hit like they did time to work it out it was a different time songs didn't sound the same stereo or mono etc timeto lisen and improve it and black people weren't alwaystaken by white every well and thats all have to say a great song and someone else made it greater.

You may be thinking of Sister Wynona Carr, who recorded the song as "Operator, Operator" for Specialty Records in 1954. That version, unfortunately, wasn't released at the time, but it is on her CD "Dragnet For Jesus". It's on KZbin.
