I just played it today because it's Mother's Day, and it makes me think of mom. This is the gospel music we were raised on "back in the day" Reverend James Cleveland, The Five Blind Boys of Mississippi & Alabama, Mahalia Jackson, Shirley Ceasar and many, many other wonderful artists of the day. In still listening 🎶 ❤

The first man leading the song (Big Henry Johnson) is my grandfather. I am so elated to find this video as I only had the opportunity to meet him once when I was 13. And he passed away shortly after that. I am working to find out all that I can about him as I know none of his family or anything. This video is one way I can teach my child who her family is. Thank you for posting. Oh my profile pic is his son Henry Johnson, Jr. Don't they look just alike!! P.s. I have since changed the pic.😊 That's me!

I tell you one thing....He can SANG!!Pure natural voice, none of the stuff back then that they use today to make you sound good.Back then you used your natural God given talent and he had it.Bless you and Rest in Heaven Mr.Johnson.And yes ,I see the resemblance in the picture,he has something to be proud of,such a Blessing.I have watched this 10 times now.

May I suggest a few more? Check out anything by the Rev. Julius Cheeks. A Great Album is *Songs of Praise* he did with the Sensational Nightingales. Also Mighty Clouds of Joy, The Gospelaires, The Evereadys, Robert Blair and the Fantastic Violinaires, Rev. Samuel Kelsey, 5 Blind Boys of Alabama,Inez Andrew's, Mahalia Jackson, Etc. I only brought up skin hue because you did. I think we can agree music is a bridge that transcends Color...Have a Blessed day!

J.A. Holland’s Quiet Storm The Bible says "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the father of lightes , with whom is NO VARIABLNESS neither SHHADOW OF TURNING".James 1:17. Those men sing from their heart to the one who made them , because of the grace of God on their life.God in his infinite wisdom come to us sinners, to embrace us with his unconditional and eternal love. For the word of God says, " GOD DEMONSTRATED his LOVE towards us in that while we were yet sinners CHRIST died for us".Ro.5:8. When Christ was crucified at Calvery's Cross on the weight of the sinnes of the whole world, that was the most spectacular event in the history of the human race.It was the ultimate demonstration of God's infinite love for sinners. My friend I hope you will read this whenever you come to listen this song. If you are not saved yet and still watching this song for what ever reason believe that it is God who directs your attention to it.And I believe he has good things for you. The Bible says , "...God is not willing any should perish but all come to repentance". The word of God also said , " All we like sheep have gone astray we have turned every one in to his own way, and the Lord has laid on him the inequity of us all". "As it is written there is none righteous no not one". "There is none that understands, there is none that seeketh after God". "They are all gone out of the way , they are together become unprofitable; there is none that does good no not one". "Who so ever keep the whole Law and offend in one point he is guilty of all". " There is a way that seems right unto every man but the ends there of are the ways of death". The Lord Jesus said, "I am the way the truth and the life no man can come unto God but by me". Again, he said, " I am the door if any man comes by me he shall be saved...." The Lord Jesus alone fulfilled the requirement of God' s moral law for we sinners by upholding it.Only the life of our Lord on earth pleased God the Father. The bible said " Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believes".Every one of us who decended from Adam and Eve came in to this world with inherited depraved nature. The word said " Behold I was shapen in iniquity and in sin did my mother conceived me". God is holy he can not be approached by sinners. Salvation is completely the gift of God' s free grace. It is completely a matter of knowing our impotence to come to God on our effort. It is about setting a side self righteousness, self confidence to approach The Holy God and only placing faith on what Christ have done for me at the cross. This is God's method of salvation and the Lord Jesus the only way to God. I must be sincere admitt to God I am a sinner and humbly ask to forgive all of my sinns and ask him to give me eternal life on the basis of what Christ has done for us at Calvery. Then, God will keep his promise to save. His promise is "Who so ever call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" .Please, repent your sins and ask God to save you and he will.

@@shalomgomez970 Bible lesson well taught. I praise God for you. It means so much to me as a Christian to see your faith being put into action through taking your time to reply spiritual truth to another soul needing Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. I am in agreement with you in prayer that this person is of a repentant heart and received Jesus Christ as their Lord and savior. Thank you so much for your time, patience, bible study and life-giving Word of God directed to those in need. We have been there. Peace 💖 Ms. Sharon

Henry Johnson was so terribly underrated! This man could have been one of the greatest Gospel singers ever or crossed over to Soul music and been up there with Wilson Pickett or Otis. He had it all. Nobody sings like that anymore. Not even in black churches. This way of singing is a lost art form.

He never crossed over Thats what makes it so great

He WAS the greatest. He didn't need the riches or approval of the oppressor to nominate him for greatness! His gifts came direct from God! This how we survived enslavement, Jim Crow Apartheid, picnic lynching, etc.!
