In the US, the usual package offered is $200k for an IT engineer. Out of it, around 120k comes as annual salary. Now, you have to spend at least 30-40k for a decent apartment. Yes the visa thing is true. But that's where the H1B visa comes into picture. If people apply in general for U.S visa it will really a hazard. But if you are applying for study purposes then it becomes too quick, specially for us Indians. In fact most accurate to say is: Indians who apply for visa in the United States are either pass out from reputed engineering colleges like iit or they have cleared SAT or GRE and got the chance to study in the top premiere universities like: Caltech,Stanford, MIT etc.

There was a lot of brain drain during last 25 years. However during the same period, India grew in a great way.
