You're an honest and a respectable gentleman 🙏 You don't have to be ashamed of telling the truth, scamers exist in every country in the world, bad people come in all colors and ethnicities, sadly. You're doing an amazing job to promote Thailand and Bangkok specifically 👏 keep up the good work

Thank you! One thing to add about the jet ski scam... they will put temporary paint and when you go off riding, the water will wash away that paint and expose damage. So my personal opinion is to not ride jet ski in Thailand at all.

First visit to Thailand I fell for the TukTuk scam, I have been back many times but have never fallen for a scam since. I love the country so much that I am moving to Bangkok in 2024. 🇮🇪

My friends and I had been scammed by a taxi driver and his gang at the Damnoen Saduak floating market. We were charged 2000 Baht per person for the boat ride and the boat driver keep stopping at every shop along the way and make complaint to his friend when we didn't buy anything during the boat trip. We even had to push him to send us back to the boat station after we knew that we had been scammed. On the way back, I complaint to the Taxi driver but he act stupid saying he didn't know them.

Seems we were quite lucky when we took a taxi to our hotel in Bangkok. I approached a Taxi and asked how much it is to our hotel. We then agreed on a price and he drove us there (he first stopped at the wrong place, as he mistook the hotel for another one, but then still drove us to our hotel and only asked for the price we agreed on), but other than that we just took the BTS skytrain 😁 thanks for this interesting video, it's definitely good to know what to watch out for

Thanks for your video friend, I should have seen this video in 2015 :D . I visited Thailand in 2015, and I met with a Tuk Tuk scammer when I went to Grand Palace. He charged me about 500 Bahts from Pratunam market to Grand Palace but he dropped me off before Grand Palace and asked me about another 100 bahts to take me in front of the entrance. I was scared of him and traveled alone to Thailand. That's why I decided to drop and apologize him that I didn't have enough money and to take 45bahts instead of 100bahts. Then I took a taxi when I back to Hotel, the taxi driver charged me only 200 bahts. That Tuk Tuk was a bad experience for me in Thailand. But some people are so kind and helped me a lot in my visit.

Been to the grand palace twice, both times, folks outside said “there is a monk ceremony and it’s closed until noon, but will take me all over”. Seemed like a good deal. However when my thia wife showed up, they just walk away. Second time I had a whole group with me, and wife showed up 8 mins later, I could see there disappointment. The tour guide I got was amazing though right outside the gate.

Thanks for the advice. Got taken 'for a ride' by a taxi driver once when I asked him to take me to the Hard Rock Cafe. He drove me around for over an hour and when I complained, he said he didn't know where it was. I just got out of the taxi and gave him the $800 that was on the meter. Really left a bad taste in my mouth and never use taxis in any country if I can avoid it.

Love your channel! Found it while looking up current rates of tourist SIM-cards :) You give really great advice for newbies to Thailand. I am a foreigner myself, but I have lived, studied and worked quiet some years in Thailand. Sometimes, people in tourist locations still try to scam me. It's actually funny if you start speaking thai to them then. They will stop immediately and sometimes even say that they are sorry. Actually, I even met nome really nice scammers that just try to make a living. Thailand is sometimes even lovely when people try to scam you :)

Also, let me add my advice that is valid for every place in the world. If you realize you have been scammed or are about to be scammed: Don't get angry and start swinging your fists. It will not solve anything and is guaranteed to get you into a lot of trouble. Not only will the scammers have a bunch of friends nearby, but the police will arrest you as well. Just don't do it. I live life the same way I drive a car: defensively. And it really works.

Just stumbled across this channel after my trip to Bangkok yesterday. Could you also add Floating market boat tour scam? We went to Taling Chan floating market (it was quiet and closed) and this 'boat tour company' offered us 1000 baht (500 baht per person) for a canal tour to Khlong Bang Luak floating market & artist house and then to Bang Wa MRT station. Then we were dropped off at the Artist house and the boat operator asked us to be on standy at the drop off point in 1 hour. Before the 1 hour mark we waited and the boat did not come back. We waited for 2 hours and it never came. Luckily the ladies at the Artist house informed us of the nearest MRT station (Bang Phai) which is 10 minutes walk from the area, and we walked to the Station and went back to hotel.

In 2015 on my trip to Thailand I only fell for the Tuk Tuk scam once, however it was different than the common scams you mentioned. This time he drop me off in a wrong location. I was going to Wat Traimit but was not sure where in Chinatown it was located. So, know exactly your route or use a map. I had to take another 10 min ride in a motorbike to my final destination. The whole trip was good for videos though. 😅 A piece of advice: things will get way worse if you are going to Indonesia. The nicest and happiest people you will find, but probably way harder to avoid scams when they do happen.
@nj472Ай бұрын
Here to advocate for Indonesia. Traveld java, east nusa tenggara and bali. Yes there were scammers around but managed to avoid pretty much all (as in 3 encounters) of it by doing research. We got taken to art galleries on foot but just politely declined and that was it. I was way more worried about Thailand because online I read about way more scams than in Java. Also the people where pretty chill about it unlike in Turkey where 13 years back they were relentless and sometimes aggressive.

I was not really planning to take a TukTuk for transportation. But I experienced the scam EXACTLY the way I described it. Initial agreement was 100 Baht. But once we reached Central World, the driver told me its 200 Baht. I remember that I only agreed to 100 Baht, never two hundred Baht. At the same time, I immediately recalled the info I gained from this video which I watched prior to my Thai journey. So I insisted on my correct change instead of the 'new' price, and was glad the driver gave me 400 Baht to my 500 Baht (unfortunately, no small change that time)

Sometime big countries normal citizen there trying to survives theirs daily expense (especially have family with Old and Young childrens) hence they comes out with all sort of Scam, Can't Blame them. Good video. I live here and can atest that in the Sukhumvit area and other main tourist areas you have virtually no chance of a taxi driver putting a meter on for a relatively short distance. I have observed that the older drivers and even older tuk tuk drivers are more likely to put the meter on. Even using Apps can be problematic because the drivers do not accept the fare at the price or accept then cancel. As far as relationships go it is much more clear cut; if you have a 'relationship' with a bar girl or other girl working in that side of things then there is very little chance of it being a genuine relationship in the normal Western sense, it is ALWAYS about money and there are many channels providing further detail and stories such as Dan in Thailand and Thailand Bound.

@hannah5245 - not everyone in Thailand is there to scam you! I've been there many times and you seldom run into scammers but if you recognize any of these scams from this video just simply say NO THANK YOU and walk away! There are Thai Tourist Police to assist tourists in these scam situations. Some Thai Tourist Police have volunteers from English-speaking countries like the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, and Canada. These volunteers are ex-pats who now live in Thailand and are well acquainted with these scams.
