Grandma Serie can most likely fight the Demon King, it's just that she doesn't want to, for she cannot imagine living in a peaceful world. She's a warmonger.

Another great thing about Denken is how he gave the losing team with a Stille an honorable exit. They're already stricken with survivor's guilt, and Denken could've easily told Laufen to steal the bird right off the bat, but Denken gave the other team a chance to fight for it, fair and square. So considerate lol

laufen still had some mana left, denken asked her to remain there so the fight would be as fair as possible. denken is such a great character.

Denken used to be ruthless when he was a younger politician. He's more willing to abide by a code now that he's older and can take his time.

The old man is a badass. I really liked his motivation and backstory, and how he is also a collector like Frieren. But when he threw hands, I was sold on his character. They’re also in an age of war, so he’s probably killed a few people in self defence.

So for Frieren and Serie here is how I understand it. Serie - Warmonger, always want to fight strong opponents/demons Frieren - wants to be left alone, wants peace, does not necessarily wants fights and tries to avoid it whenever she can With these characteristics, Serie would not want to kill the SOURCE of her strong opponents. As she enjoys fighting them. Frieren, however, was getting bugged by those disruptors of peace, so she is willing to destroy the source if she had the opportunity. In my own theory, when the Demon King was killed(80yrs ago), Serie got bored as her strong opponents are gone and later (50yrs ago) decided to make the Magic Association to train student who could "entertain" her or try to train someone who could potentially rival and battle her for fun as she craves for that. To add to that, I think if Serie fight the Demon king, she could defeat it but not kill it and leave it. She would say to the demon king "Rest and grow stronger then fight me again."

The reason Flamme said that Serie isnt gonna beat the Demon King, is because Serie doesnt desire peace, she likes chaos. Killing the Demon King ,the bringer of Chaos would conflict with her nature. + Frieren destroying the barrier is indeed impressive, but it still took her quite a bit of time analyzing it until she was able it seems. Serie is still way stronger than Frieren^^
