Fern has natural ability to cover her mana - this is her strongest side as a mage and even Frieren have troubles to detect Fern

To be more specific, in Lügner's context, Sousou no Frieren means "Frieren ðe Funeral Sender". Sousou usually means "Sending off ðe dead" but Demons spun it around to mean "Sending YOU to deaþ."

17:20 callback all the way to episode 1 when Frieren first met Fern and noted how good she was at hiding her mana from detection. 10:01 Frieren's smile when thinking about killing demons made me think of the demon Lugner's reaction when he said he was overjoyed that fighting broke out. I wonder if they are making a comparison of Frieren or elves are to demons as demons are to humans and that she enjoys killing them and will do everything in her power to wipe them out.

That’s actually a very interesting take! I mean they did say she’s killed more demons than anyone so who knows she may really just like taking them out😂😂

Honestly, it's not even that Stark took down a dragon in 30s. He took it down in one hit. The first hit just shattered it's claws (which I doubt contributed much to it's death) and the rest of the time was just him getting into position/dodging. It was literally one attack that killed it.

The English version sadly loses an important aspect of this episode (by no fault of the translation team, it's basically untranslatable). So the title of the series is "Sousou no Frieren", usually directly translated as "Frieren at the funeral". Literally it's something like "Frieren of the funeral", "sousou" meaning "funeral/burial rites". However, this *can* also be read in the sense of someone who sends you to a funeral/buries you or *slays*, perhaps? That is to say, the title by which Lugner refers to Frieren, and the title of this episode is, indeed, "Sousou no Frieren". (there was a joke in the episode preview last week, where Fern says: "Next episode: Sousou no Frieren: Sousou no Frieren" to which Stark asks "Why did you say it twice, are you angry?")

To be more precise, it has 3 meanings. 1. Seeing you off to ðe ends/outskirts of ðe earþ. (野辺の送り) 2. Sending off ðe dead. (死者をほうむり見送ること) 3. Sending YOU to deaþ. (A colloquial urban, nickname or codename-like title/euphemism). incidentally, all 3 meanings work in Frieren's case.

@@danielantony1882 Yeah. Also, is your keyboard broken XD? I don't think "ð" and "þ" should appear in English text XD
@danielantony1882
@danielantony1882 11 ай бұрын
Well, Ðð and Þþ are old English letters called "Eth"(Ðð) and Thorn(Þþ). If anyþing, an English keyboard ðat doesn't have ðem, is ðe one ðat's broken. Ðe people of ðe Sinosphere still use 3000 year old graphemes, now known as Chinese Characters, but English can't even keep ones ðat were used 1000 years ago. Not much to be proud of, eh? I don't þink anyone can use Eð and Þorn accidentally. Most people don't even boðer to learn ðeir own language. @@MIC132MIC

@@danielantony1882 I'm sorry, but this is *really* hard to read. If you plan on replying to me, I would really prefer if you typed normally. And while I agree those are technically (old) English letters, they are not used in modern English and using them at best only makes whatever you write harder to read. Also I disagree on the last point (although I'm ESL, so it doesn't technically apply to me). Those letters are not part of modern English, so not learning them isn't "not learning your own language". It's "not learning old unused version of a language". Just like I don't fault people who speak latin-derived languages for not learning latin.
@danielantony1882
@danielantony1882 11 ай бұрын
Well, I suppose you are correct. It's not that hard to understand though. If you can't understand their difference, it's likely that your understanding of English isn't that high. The "th" is a French invention/enforcement. It's only normal right now because the french said so around 800-900 or so years ago. Anyway, I'd recommend putting some research into voiced dental fricative and unvoiced dental fricative. Former being Eth and the latter being Thorn, which both have the appropriate pronunciation in those names. Once you know how they work, it's gonna be easy to understand the difference. Letters are not as hard to figure out as you think. You're not dealing with Chinese Logographs. In fact, if you wanted to, you could learn Futhark in 3 days at worst. It is basically not a challenge at all. Letters are basically scribbles that we associate with sounds. They're not logographs like 葬送 is, and don't have any meaning in them.@@MIC132MIC

Frieren is one of the strongest mages in the story(not strongest). But her biggest strength lies on her capability to analyze magic, that's why Lugner despise her. She can spend just mere few decades to analyze and dispel the magics these demons dedicated their entire lifetime. If you realise the director is same as Bocchi, both ep8 ended with the title's name.

Nice reaction as always. Really like how you get into analyzing the episode. That shows how much you are invested in the story. Personally, I think this is an amazing episode up to this point, but next weeks is going to be a banger. Freiren is going to let loose on the Aura's army >_< And the name Freiren the Slayer will spread once again across the land.
