Huge negative for me is that the refrigerator will only cool to 52 degrees F and not 32 degrees F - as it is advertised. When this product was tested it was inside, plugged into an outlet in a room with an ambient temp of 70 degrees F. The temperature issue will allow for food spoilage should perishables be stored in the fridge. This should only be used for non-perishable items.
Cannot recommend this product due to the temperature issue.

I am sorry to post anything negative. I'm curious if you read the instructions. These little coolers aren't meant to get down to actual 32 degrees. It clearly states below ambient temperature. These are meant as beverage coolers and not for long term food storage. Maybe something to keep your sandwich cold for a couple of hours. Keep your expectations realistic and you won't be disappointed.

I personally have this mini-fridge and it gives me no problems at all. It's not really for food but I keep tiny snacks in it because it's super convenient and close to my bed. I didn't even know it had a fan I can't hear a thing really until I watched this video and sat on my bed for 5 minutes straight listening to it. Was totally worth the price and it gets super cold especially at the back of the mini-fridge. can tuck into small corners and the pink complements the rest of the colors in my room nicely.

You should put some items in it, then wait and remeasure temps. Refrigeration works by removing heat, not by cooling air. Without items inside, there is only air to remove the heat from. Not sure if that makes since? If you put cold items in it, they will stay quite cold as heat will be removed from the item, if there is nothing in it, there is nothing to remove heat from. And as one person stated in the comments, this is for keeping soda, and water cool

If you read the manual it says it cools 20-28 degrees below ambient room temperature. So if u want it colder then put it in a colder environment.

Sorry Doc, I have to make this point. My cans are coming in at mid 40's F. I used a physical probe thermometer inside the cans. The air temp inside the cooler is immaterial. There is no forced cold air like your home fridge, where a simple thermometer would b fine. As I said below, a thermal gun thermometer reading on the back of the inside wall averaged low 40's (depending on the spot I pointed at). The 'cooling' is done by pulling heat out of objects inside; liquids being an excellent gauge. All fridges work like this, but the forced air has the advantage of being much faster at blasting stuff with cold air and pulling heat out quickly from the objects and the air. Would love the cheap, quiet, energy efficient solid state devices for the ol' home fridge, but they're just too slow. If u have your home fridge door open and close, solid state would never keep up. Unless u kept it shut overnight. Also, solid state can't compete with the power of being able to hit real cold temps. Like below 40 or below freezing. Buuuut, for small applications, the fancy-pants chip circuits do the job to keep things in the 40-something F zone. Just don't keep emptying and filling constantly. If you're knocking down beers with a friend, you're not gonna b too happy. But a soda or beer or two, and you're golden. The point here is personal convenience. There's no forced air, so the items have to cool slower by simple contact. I don't know if I'll check out these times-to-cool numbers - I don't think I have the patience. So far, I just grab a few cans from the bottom, and then at my leisure pop new ones onto the top. As an aside, all fridges benefit from being full. Less exchange when u take out and replace an item. You don't lose such a high volume of nice, cold air to one door swing, at which a small amount can be replaced faster. Now, u did a concise job here with this video. And u put the time and effort in that I, and most other people wouldn't have. But u were misled by numbers. Hope u make an addendum to this piece. I don't like when people are sometimes turned off to a product easily. Especially the speedsters that read a few things and are settled. When a product works (at it's price point), the producer deserves hearty sales. Now, when a product is claiming nirvana, and is inaccurate in their claims (to say the least), I'm more fierce than anyone. As we should all b to warn each other so others don't have our fails. And miscreant businesses learn quickly how proper business exchange works. Thanks for the video and your time Doc. Will b using your channel often.

Mine says it chills 20 to 28 degrees below ambient temps. My cans are really cold. My infrared thermal gun says the inside back of the cooler is in the low 40's. It won't give me a good reading on the cans because of their shine. Also, there's no holes inside where cold air would blow through like in a compressor/refrigerant-type cooler. This unit is done solid state with chips and such, as u stated. The fan is just to cool the electronics. I had a larger cooler years ago for the truck that operated similarly. Lighter socket, tiny fan, and the walls inside were very cold. These cool by contact and absorbing heat from warmer objects inside. Not fast, but steady and cheaply. These are purely for convenience, so u don't have to run to a bigger fridge all the time to get what u want. Like mine is by my computer. Or maybe if u work in an office - absolutely ideal. Or u have it plugged in the car on a short trip when u don't feel like hassling with ice, or insulator bags that just get warm in a short time. I completely dig mine. Thought it was just a goof gift from my son, turns out it's totally practical for what it was meant to do. ] Also; see @19boris57 below - nails it.

I actually replaced the fan with one from an old pc and it worked perfectly, definitely quieter than the old one which was rattling badly, i might put a noctua fan in there for less noise

Dude it says in the book the unit CAN chill to 32 degrees below the ambient temperature, it doesn’t say it does chill to 32. Actually it says it will get to between 40 and 50 degrees with an ambient temperature of 77

tncountryboy06 based the ambient temp of where the unit was placed it should have changed at least a few degrees. Not necessarily to 32°. Probably just that unit. Happy Holidays!

Thank you! Yes! the 52 degrees, would be an issue for me as well! The can itself, keeps the drink a little cool; and the 52 degrees adds to that to make it the right temp.. So in essence, it was just designed to keep can drink cool. So thanks again!

My wife just got 1 today and the owners manual says it will get adout 32 degrees below ambient temperature. If the room temperature is 77 degrees, it will cool down anywhere from 40 to 50 degrees.

Doc, you misread the owner's manual, which clearly states: *_“The unit can chill to approximately 32F°/18°C below ambient temperature.”_* That doesn't mean that it will cool down to 32°F. It means that if it's 84°F in the room where the fridge is plugged in, it will be limited to a minimum temperature of 52°F inside the fridge. If it's 110° in the room or garage (or outside, if it's plugged in outside) it likely won't even chill it down to 78°F, because the ambient temperature is too damned hot for it to cool anything down without some sort of compressor. The fridge actually does exactly what it promises. You just thought that it would cool down to 32°F; and that ain't _cool!_ 😉

I just cleaned the lent out of the cracks even at the fan where it did have lent and I’ve been keeping cheese and pepperoni in it!!!! Would you perhaps know if I can fix this problem ? That little fridge isn't going to chill the air inside the unit, you need to put something in it it needs mass to create cold. By the way the recommended temperature to keep food safely refrigerated is 41 degrees.

I wish I'd have been able to read the tiny print on the package before I spent $21 on my mini-fridge. With my magnifying glass, I see that the package states "cools 20-28 degrees below ambient room temperature." In other words, if room temperature is a typical 75 degrees, the best you can hope for is about 50 degrees in the fridge--not cold enough for keeping any type of food above within the safety limit and not cold enough for beverages, either. You're better off with an ice chest.

i mean for the convenience of 28 degrees cooler is very nice, I set it on my desk so I have access to my cool soda. My room is 75 and the fridge is down to 45 So it keeps my drinks cool enough to enjoy

@@SpencerKaup Yup, you're right. I could live with a 45 degree bottle of water, I suppose, but the thing said it was okay for use with food. Anyone who's ever been sick from food poisoning (as I once was) won't settle for keeping food in a fridge that won't hit the safety zone. So far, I've seen no advantage that the mini-fridge has over ice cubes. Thanks, Spencer. =)

For anyone trying to decide whether to buy this as a cheap, real mini fridge, to leave on inside your house 24/7 I would probably go with the next thing up. To me this has been like a super lunchbox, not the typical mini fridge I've had in the past. It's cool you can take it anywhere easily and keep your food about 20-30 degrees cooler than the temp that it's in but I left mine on 24/7 in my house just keeping closed drinks in it and it failed in about 1 month. A lot of ppl seem to like & defend this thing and I'm not perfect but I read the manual and I don't seem to have violated any of the rules to keep this thing running. Maybe my wife flicked the power on and off to quickly once? (That was 1 of the no-no's on the manual). That's just my experience I thought I'd share.

But you are correct, it doesn't contain any refrigerant, evaporators, condensers, filters driers, compressor, start and run caps, defroster etc. I picked up a Dr.Pepper version at Walmart for about 35 bucks. It seems to work pretty well so far and got down to 40 F after a few hours in my room with my room temp just shy of 70 F. Which is pretty good based on what it states - 32 degrees below ambient temp.

@@miss_sapphire I just bought one of these from eBay for $20 (not working) I'm upgrading the chip (4amp to 5amp) and heatsink which will hopefully get it a few degrees lower than standard. Im running a 5amp power pack to the 12v connection as I'm in Australia and we don't have 120v only 240v. Three types of coolers aren't available anywhere in Australia unfortunately.
