He could definitely sing, just not to your taste! He committed suicide in 2018 sadly.

Thanks for recognizing Scott’s voice is not for you. But it is for some. One of his most iconic songs pays tribute to those to whom it doesn’t appeal. In “Oil Slick” Scott is reflecting on his shortcomings including that he’s “got a voice like a gutter in a toxic storm”. For me, there’s a certain honesty, fragility and self-awareness to Scott’s songs. His songs - sung in his honest voice - have sustained me through dark turbulent times. His voice comforts me in light of my own failings. He is deeply missed by many including me 😢

@@johnclark2366 This is a weird one, because it may well be close to the final ever recorded Frightened Rabbit song, and there's a definite weariness in the voice. Indeed the final line sounds like 'not carry on through the rainstorm and drown me out'. Personally it took me a while to 'get' Frightened Rabbit, and I remember a time when I heard a stream of the first three songs from Pedestrian Verse (Acts of Man/Backyard Skulls/Holy) and realised I'd found something very special. You may find that if you persevered through their catalogue you find quite few songs/lyrics that resonate, although you may well find a few clunkers as well! Here's a few others if you can be bothered investigating further: Head Rolls Off How it Gets In (with Julien Baker) Keep Yourself Warm (maybe have a look at The Twilight Sad's visceral cover in Porto from 2018, recorded not long after Scott's suicide; they were friends of his). Another thing that comes to mind is that Scott Hutchison had a unique voice, and I find it difficult hearing many other people covering his songs
