I don't know if your dealer guy ever told you why you are getting some corrosion or not. the reason your gimbal unit is getting some corrosion is because your anodes aren't working properly. as the propeller churns in the water, it creates a static discharge. the anodes are added so that they can properly dissipate that static discharge and keep your unit from corroding. make sure your anodes are contacting bare metal to metal contact and make sure you don't paint them or anything like that. you should seal them so they don't leak water, but again make sure they contact the bolts and make good metal to metal contact. you may even want to add extra anodes to your outdrive for extra protection for it as well. also make sure all your grounding cables are correctly placed and again make good metal to metal contact. you did a great job with your repair, but if your anodes and grounds were working properly, you should never have had to do this repair job. (just thought i'd throw in my two cents worth.) :-)

Completely enjoyed and learned from the three episodes you put out on the rebuild. Very informative and useful for me. Used it as sort of a video guide when I did mine. Thanks a million!!!

I got a slide hammer very similar at Harbor Freight Tools. I tried a gear puller but you also need adapters and such to make it work. The slide hammer works great.

When replacing the u-joint bellows I have not found in any manual, video or blog online that provides clear and exact instructions explaining where the external lip of the bellows (bell housing end) should be placed into the bell housing prior to inserting the sleeve.being more specific, where does the sleeve rest once pushed into the bellows? Should the lip on the bellows be pulled into the bell housing past the groove in the bell housing or does the lip on bellows go into the groove on housing? OR.. Is the groove provided in bell housing for where the outer edge of the retaining sleeve should rest once pushed into the bellows past the lip ?

There is a lip that makes it very hard to do while on the bench. The boat acts like a second set of hands to hold it still.

What I meant by on was the ignition. You should never trim your outdirve up while running. With the ignition on you scan see the gauge, and make adjustments.

Where did you buy the stainless steel pin? I think you said in the video. Someone else's video recommended snap on tool part number 7M6A for the flex work unless you have another source. I think your video is very good and has great details.

I need help please.. my alignment tool does not pass the gimbal bearing.. on the old one?? I got the new one and haven't installed it but it won't go through either.. I have a feeling it's going to do the same thing once I installed it or it should go right through..

How hard was this? I am very mechanical so I'm not worried about not understanding it. I guess I'm mostly worried about the special tools and fitting my big hands into tiny places. What special tools will I need? The job I am trying to do is replace the gimbal bearing, bellows and seals on a 1995 alpha one Gen 2 lower unit. I have realized that I have to order the hinge pin tool so I'll get that. What else though? Also, while I'm in there should I replace the lower unit shift cable? Thank you for your help.

I was curious if there is an easy way to put the 3/4" oil hose back on? Can I take the white plastic piece off that the hose was originally attached to?
@mhayes12912 жыл бұрын
Big favor, about the 13:30 mark you state that you need to adjust the trim sender by starting in the "middle" and get your engine running. I would like to make sure I don't damage the U joint by over trimming where the limit should cut off and also get accurate gauge readings. I can not find any info on this process could you explain this any further it would be greatly appreciated as I will be looking at replacing my sender and limit switch in the near future. Thank you so much Great Job
