I noticed the modification to the fuel line. Any reason? I have a 1988 2.5L with an issue I haven't resolved after doing lots of work. After approx 90min run time on the water, the engine will sputter and die - unless I drop it to idle. Then it will idle only, I can't give it more throttle or the same issue will occur. Otherwise it runs great. The thinking now is vapor lock. I installed an additional blower to cool the engine compartment but the problem still occurs. Wondering if it's happening at the fuel pump or the fuel line. Was thinking of replacing the metal fuel line and somehow rerouting it away from the engine. That all said I also just replaced the thermostat which I discovered was rusted into the open position. I can't help but wonder if that could have something to do with it (engine running too cool & rich?).

@@johncmoney8394 Thanks for watching, it may very well be an issue with your fuel system as opposed to spark plugs, wires, rotor, and distributor points. We would recommend replacing your fuel filter as well as cleaning the carburetor. If the carburetor hasn’t been serviced or rebuilt in last 10 years…it’s definitely time to remove it and either rebuild it yourself, or have a shop rebuild it. As far as our fuel system and lines, no modifications performed. Everything is factory.

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Thanks! I did rebuild the carb (twice). I changed the fuel filter and also added a water separator fuel filter. Emptied fuel tank, added fresh fuel. New fuel hoses. It has been a mystery what has been causing the issue after the boat runs great for an hour and a half. I have the boat out of the water now. Slowly going over things again. Took the exhaust riser off today - the flapper is non existent. Just the grommets and metal across the pipe. What little plastic left was crisp and brittle. Hopefully all will go well in the spring when I get everything back together.

Your videos are well done thank you. I’ve been having over heating issues in an 1977 228. I looked down at the water tube and it looks like the previous owner put a copper tube in there definitely smaller diameter. That could be why I’m not getting the flow needed all manifolds and riser are clear. It looks like the hose might have a hose inside it there to fit on that tube. I didn’t want to do the bellows because they look new but I am at the point where I think I have too
