🇬🇧 I live in the far north of Britain in Northumberland ( Famous for the constant Viking raids from 700 to 900 AD!) I love folklore, Pagan & ancient gods & goddesses of Pagan Britain, Scandinavia & Germany. But, this is the first time ive heard of Frisian Gods & Goddesses. It would help if you could have displayed the names of these ancient dieties, up on the screen. It helps to see the spelling of the names. When you mentioned Bad Hannu (?) Goddess of War, the name reminded me of Britains War Queen, Boudicca. Her tribe the Iceni lived on the eastern coast in East Anglia. My ancestors were originally called Van Horn & my fathers people were from The Netherlands, but dropped the Van part during the 1st war incase the Brits thought the family could be German, not Dutch. I used to visit Joure many years ago, about 36 yrs, i had Dutch or Frisian friends living there. It has changed much over 3 plus decades! Its quadrupled in size! Its so nice to see the older films from Joure, round the 1980s 1985. I wonder if the books you mentioned are available in English, it would be good to read them & compare the old British dieties with them. Thank you for your video Peace & Harmony 🇬🇧🙋

Thanks! Great that you visited Joure. I think this book with nearly 300 germanic deities is helpfull (and in English) hg-shop.eu/illustrated-lexicon-of-germanic-deities/

@@tribeofthefox 🇬🇧 Oh thank you so much for replying so quickly! I'm very grateful for the info on the books. That Germanic one looks excellent! Over many years I've collected so much about ancient tribal beliefs that is so fascinating! The last 7/8 years I've been immersed in the ancient Gods & Goddesses of ancient India. I honestly believe the Indian Gods ( read prior advanced human civilisation) travelled to South America & taught the tribes there about their Vedic pantheon because Taking the root names & looking at the Olmec, Toltec, Mixtec, Aztec & Maya Deities there is definitely links, strong links including names, what each God stood for & description. The Vedic scriptures, Puranas etc go back ( In their Bramhic cycles) 440,000 years BC.!! Better stop there or my enthusiasm will have me writing tomes! Interestingly listening to the Friese language, it's very much like the vernacular tongue of Northumberland. I can understand alot of Friese words ( Our ancient dialect is Anglo Saxon, Norwegian Danish & therefor Friese Within) I just love my heritage & finding links. Hoping to catch more of your videos, Wishing you Peace & Tranquility 😁 🙋

In York the frisians had a part of the town where the traders lived.

About Boudica, she revolted in 61 AD. The war of the frisians against the romans and Baduhenna was in 28 AD. Boudica was probably just born or not even born.

Most Frisian gods are just general Germanic gods like Wedda (Odin),Thuner (Thor) and Tiw (Tyr) but there are others that are not in Norse mythology

I love your videos Martin. I want to learn more if you know of any books in English. My ancestors come from the North Frisian area. I would love to learn about the local Gods and customs. My mom has her grandmother's wooden shoes from when she was a girl.

Cool that your mom still has her grandmothers wooden shoes! I still have mine from when i was a kid. I wore them in the garden. Some people still wear them in the garden, on the farm or even some truckdrivers still wear them. About books....most books Dirkje and me read are in the Dutch lanquage only, because there are very good books available here. For English books you might want to check out the website of Gunivortus Goos/Gardenstone. He also writes in English: hg-shop.eu/gg-books/ . 'Northern mysteries and Magic'by Freya Aswynn is a classic about runes and lore. 'Seidr, the gate is open' by Katie Gerrard is recommended by Dirkje. Off course the Edda is always a classic. And for YT channels 'Norse magic and beliefs' is very good. You can find a long video about the Frisians there too: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4SnhYWIpb6Wna8 . Also 'History with Hilbert' is a YT channel with several Frisian video's.

@@tribeofthefox many thanks for the help. What I have enjoyed the most about becoming heathen is the work one has to do themselves.

Enig idee hoelang Baduhenna vereerd is? Ze was de godin van de Frisii in de eerste eeuw maar ik vraag me af of ze ook nog vereerd werd in de vroege middeleeuwen?
@tribeofthefox Жыл бұрын

15:34 dus tuig.
