@georgesalinas72062 жыл бұрын
What's a natto?
@SailorBarsoom2 жыл бұрын
@@georgesalinas7206 It's Japanese. Every country has this one traditional food most foreigners can't stand. With Scotland it's haggis, and with Japan it's natto. Natto is a fermented soybean food. It's kind of slimy, rather sticky, and it gets stringy, like okra does. I have relatives who won't let me microwave it at their place, because it "stinks up the kitchen." Weird thing is: if you eat it three or four times, you'll probably end up liking it. An acquired taste you can actually acquire.

When you cook and make your own refried beans at home as I do it cost about .10 cent to make a quart of dip. I always put cilantro and a teaspoon of shortening in my bean dip to make it velvety smooth.
@robotnik774 жыл бұрын
Instead of shortening, drop in a quarter slice of avocado, which gives you a healthier fat than shortening. It's not very noticeable, and makes the dip very creamy.

First of all you processed all of the texture out of the beans. You should have added a little oil to the jalapenos or maybe some jalapeno juice and really liquified them. Or maybe even better would be to just use jalapeno juice. Then mix the beans, spices, and liquid by hand. Another secret to refried beans is extra oil. Enough to gather in the bottom of the container when you refrigerate them.
@BurningcerealShow2 жыл бұрын

@clintwhatley79817 жыл бұрын
From S.Texas .. all good but you could have added 2 or 3 tblspn of oil.
@daksmom19996 жыл бұрын
Clint Whatley why the oil? Because the dip was sort of not thick enough? That was because of the jalapeños. Had he used jalapeños not in liquid, the dip would have come out thick. However, the authentic bean dip of years ago didn't have jalapeños in it. It's been decades since I bought the bean dip, therefore I haven't even looked at it in stores, so Lay's might have started putting jalapeños in it, but they wouldn't have used the peppers that were in liquid.
@frankkolton17806 жыл бұрын
Clint Whatley is correct. The second ingredient listed on Frito Lay Jalapeno Bean Dip is corn oil. Fat (oil) gives the beans a richer flavor. In Mexico, the traditional way to make refried beans to take cooked pinto beans and fry them in a unhealthy amount of pork lard along with some onions and garlic. Many people now use unsaturated oils. I make my bean dip from scratch, frying and mashing the beans in a little bit of canola oil. I also throw in a couple stalks of fresh epazote when cooking the beans. Along with the jalapenos, garlic and onion, I put a little cumin and grind up a couple a pasilla chiles (dried chilaca chiles). I sometimes add queso fresco too.
@JoseSanchez-bp7xz6 жыл бұрын
Frank Kolton You can not make it from scratch because you can not make Beans from scratch.
@frankkolton17806 жыл бұрын
daksmom1999 Frito Lay Jalapeno Bean Dip is the "authentic" original (now called hot bean dip) and came out in 1967, their regular bean dip didn't come out until many years later.
@frankkolton17806 жыл бұрын
Jose Sanchez Certainly you can, instead of opening a can of refried beans or canned bean, you sort, rinse, and soak dried beans overnight. For giving the bean extra flavor you can simmer them in a pork, beef, chicken, or vegetable stock. If you want to be pedantic, you can grow your own beans.
