I always wondered why JLS has never reached the top 10. He has a great serve, one of the best forehands on tour when he is on, and a pretty decent ROS for such a big player. His backhand is weak in comparison, but has a wicked sliced BH which is useful in faster surfaces. Also, I'd say his net game is at least above average. Court coverage and shot tolerance are in my opinion the weaker parts of his game, but he should be able to past by them since he is way more dangerous when his foot is on the gas pedal. He is one of the few guys on tour able to outplay focused Alcaraz for long stretches of a match as we saw in Madrid a couple seasons ago. Also, his windup isn't that long, shouldn't be as hindering as it was for other big power baseliners. I don't know, looks like it's always been a consistency issue with JLS, because he is game when he plays his best tennis.

@@JanAyudaPerros he's generally had very tough draws so he takes some time to get momentum in a season it seems.
@anustart-loveeachother76808 ай бұрын
Tbf there are weaknesses, his first serve percentage is super often only in the 40s, it’s been an issue throughout his career that he can’t find first serves consistently and he’s never managed to fix it. He’s also poor on the run, he’s not even a bad mover for his size but neither his forehand nor his backhand are a danger on the run, he can only play like that from the centre on the court with his feet planted. ROS is hit or miss, stands near the baseline and just swings at is, but doesn’t have a reliable “just putting the ball in” return, and despite his wind up being fairly compact, he seems to excel in slow conditions mostly because it gives him the time to plant his feet cause his footwork is slow and hes able to hit through anyone no matter how slow the conditions are, he doesn’t need fast surfaces to give his ball more pace. I agree that he could have achieved more and won some titles/had a higher ranking, but there are some not so obvious weaknesses in his game, you just need to get him on the move a little
@JanAyudaPerros8 ай бұрын
@@YouAintGotNoTegridyBoi hope he finally wins vs Fritz
@jesusfernandez78978 ай бұрын
@@anustart-loveeachother7680 Yeah, I absolutely agree on everything. His footwork seems to be a glaring hole in his game, especially in fast surfaces. In any case, get him on the move is not as easy as it looks at first glance, when he is on he can overpower just about everyone. If you notice, almost everything you pointed out other than his footwork are consistency related issues.

Shelton winning a clay title (Houston) before Fritz & usurping US #1 from him really inspired the Macy's heir to get his -ish together & stop messing around with randomly tanked matches. No sight or tacky mention of the unbecoming influencer girlfriend. Just all business. That's what America needs: serious winners NOT paycheck players. Fritz's level and focus has been insane these past few rounds. I just wish he would bring that purposeful play to the main stage (of RPDR). My biggest gripe with the Three Mess-cateers (Fratz, Paulina, & Tiafool) is that they're too comfortable being big fish in the smaller 250 ponds than bringing their very best to the biggest tournaments (Masters & Slams). Fritz is especially guilty of this despite possessing the biggest weapons out of the three. We'll see what happens in the final. Part of me wants sweet Strife to finally get on the board with a title like Thompson did in Los Cabos & the other part of me wants Fritz to get that clay title (unless the BMW is a gift for the distracting girlfriend). Regardless, it's gonna be a servefest.
