He's a hard guy to figure out but I think there may be some truth to what you say...I think these interviews with Parkinson,Clive James, Clive Anderson are an insight into how he worked with Dud.....

Lovely observation. And probably dead right. Definitely one of those people you would love to have met. Same goes for Clive James. Pity Peter drank so much. Cut his life short.

I love how, after leaving Vic more or less dumbstruck for some time, nearer the end he happens to make an off the cuff observational statement, then Vic jumps in with a better follow-up line, so he then seems to quite intentionally switch to observational stuff for a while, against his usual style of comedy, seemingly to give Vic chances to shine by throwing in other observational lines. Makes me think he was a very generous co-star to other performers.
