This is great! I've seen this done with bendy straws but this is better & will be making several today. Thanks! I keep piles of this mesh around for many projects - mostly DIY filter cartridges with poly felt in between. Gr8 hack & video. 😃

I have that same filter. I put filter floss in the output and cut a water bottle piece to curve over. That kept flow down for my Betta. Then I built a media basket from that same stuff you have. I used stainless wire to wire my basket, so it's rigid.

Tip/hack: keep a lid on your tank and within a couple of months your tank will be full of frog bit, especially if you have a heavy hand in feeding.

Really not necessarily. I grow frogbit and sell it. You can put more media in filter to slow it down. Let the frogbit overtake the tank surface and it has nowhere to go.
