Leafzone is just potassium and iron. I'd reccomend seachem flourish or easy green from aquarium co op. Looks great, i just ordered some frogbit for my 20 long. Good idea w airline hose to slow flow

Frogbit leaves are very pretty because they look like mini lily pads. Beware though, its super long roots have to be trimmed regularly….if not, the roots will reach all the way to the stratum and will dig in. Then you have a mess on your hands. Pretty plant but got rid of mine because way too much upkeep.

I recently found and collected what I think is either North American Frogbit or European Frogbit from a lake in west-central PA. If I've researched correctly, I'll know when it blooms. If it's a white star burst it's North American. If it's a three petal blossom it's European. I doubt if it could be Amazonian since I found it in a local lake when the water temp was around 45-50°F. The two pieces I found, I buried in 2+" of sand in a 10 gallon aquarium that was well 'seasoned'. I keep small fish for outdoor mosquito control and bring them in through the winter. In zone 5 it can drop to -20°F and my rainwater barrels would freeze solid and burst if I didn't drain them for the winter. I doubt that the Amazon variety would survive that cold water in the lake? The sand is well stained with nutrients mostly all the way through. I also use a circulating pump, not an air pump. When I change water, I use the old aquarium water for watering the house plants, and I only use either rain water or melted snow, no tap water ever to add back in. BTW, the houseplants drink that sh!t up! Back to the Frogbit. The 10 gallon aquarium sits where it gets direct, early morning sunlight for at most two hours, then indirect sunlight throughout the rest of the day and I have no hood on it. Two of our cats love drinking out of the tank. The one piece was about 2.5" long and a fairly solid, thick piece. It has grown from the bottom to better than 3/4 of the way up with a good 3/16" thick stem from which 6 leaves have branched from several nodes with two snaking around the top of the aquarium. One leaf is lobed, just like a waterlily leaf, the other is a fully solid ellipses and they're about 1" wide by 1 3/4" long. The leaf stems are thin, barely 1/8". The other piece was barely 1/2" long by 1/8" with one tiny leaf. It too was buried and now the leaf stem is growing at about 1/4" every day or two after just existing and not dying for about 3 weeks. They've been in captivity for nearly two months. I think I'll leave them buried as what I've read, they do root in mud in shallow water. The two seem to be in excellent health. In every description I've read, the undersides of the leaves of every variety of Frogbit are covered with soft spongy reddish or purplish colored cells. None of the leaves on what I have are showing this growth or any hint of that color, neither of the ones that have reached the surface, nor any of the others that are still submerged. I have three ramshorn snails and one Chinese Algae Eater with three Tiger Barbs, so I doubt they are eating the soft tissue?

I've been wanting to get a new rock for my son's planted tank. I like the one you have in this one. Could you tell me what kind it is? Also any tips on handling water changes with floating plants? This video was very helpful as we just got some frogbit and are new to fish keeping. Thank you!

In case you haven't figured this out yet (old comment), you just need some air tubing, a suction cup, and an air tubing connector. Make a loop that fits the falling water with the tubing and connect it together. Then attach the suction cup behind the falling water so that the tube is pretty much floating on the water, and you're good to go.

Have just an couple of the Amazon frog bit in an 60 gallon tank with one dumbo male betta fish the only plants that I have with my little buddy is almond leaves and 6 moss balls I don't want to get any more frog bit now because I want to see how the hand full that I have right now are either going to live or die I have an internal filter practically made for an 40 gallon but I have it in my 60 because randy my Betta don't like a lots of agitation in his tank now I don't want to use. Fertilizer because I feel that it just might cause problems in the health of my betta fish I personally read where frog bit does not need co2 or any kind of chemical to help it grow

I notice you have a hang on Back filter for do you prevent the plants from being pushed under water by the filter output
@underwaterupdates9589
@underwaterupdates9589 6 жыл бұрын
I raise the water line to be level with the output of the HOB filter or using airline tubing to act as a bumper to keep the plants away from the water outflow

Hi Frankie! I have also noticed brown algae growing and have to clean the 15 gallon tank glass about once a week. It takes about this long to notice the algae has accumulated on the sides. Interesting correlation made! Thank you for the view and the observation!

Do you just put the seeds on the top of the water or do you have to plant the seeds in dirt?
@underwaterupdates9589
@underwaterupdates9589 4 жыл бұрын
I grew these from already established plants. But seeds would need to be sprouted in a different container than your tank as they most likely will not sprout

Do not use any salt in a planted aquarium. You will kill off your plants. Just thought I tell you. Watch any YT video and they will confirm what I said.
