READ THIS FOR AN UPDATE! This video gets traction occasionally and people are passionate in their responses - negative and positive. It was my first time buying this many pops and the fact that they were out of box added an extra element of uncertainty. Let me give some context after a year and a half. 1. The video did well so that’s good. 2. A few pieces sold quickly for an ok return. 3. I quickly grew tired of the research involved for each individual piece only to find that many were not worth the time. 4. I have over 90% of these left after a year and a half. 5. Im finally to the point of pricing them for $1 a piece (barely above breaking even) and placing them in my little booth. It’ll probably take a year to move them all. 6. It was a good learning experience. Do I regret the buy? No. Like I said, the video did well and it was fun at first. Would I do it again? NO! I, like the original seller, would not want to again attempt all the work involved to maximize the potential of each individual piece. Also, I would not be excited by a purchase like this and I only like to share the experiences I’m excited about. Cheers!

Also bro good information that you need. When viewing pops at all if they have a "A376" or anything to that notion, it's a faked pop. I noticed that immediately on the bottom of Freddy. Real Funkos correspond with a box code imprinted in the bottom. The numbers are located on the foot or back of the neck on some pops. If you need pics or more information, I'll be glad to send it over.

@@maxschmidt666 This is how I see it too. I'll never understand why people collect things that are specifically mass produced and marketed as "collectibles". They will never be worth anything substantial because everyone and their mothers is collecting them and holding onto them, hoping they will increase in value. Things gain value over time due to rarity, and often that rarity exists because not many people thought to keep hold of them. Mint boxed copies of the original World of Warcraft are rare and valuable because not many people at the time thought it would become the biggest MMO of all time. Not many people decided "I'm not going to open my copy of this game I just bought". It likely happened by pure accident. Truly valuable collectible items happen organically. You can't mass produce items with the intent of them being valuable collectibles. It just doesn't work like that.

This reminds me of a yard sale I went to 20 years ago. I collect antique bottles. Buying them one off can be expensive especially if you buy them on E-Bay. At the time I had around 150 of them and had recently started buying small collections of them and would pick out a few for my collection then resell the rest and make a small profit. This is a good way to collect anything if you are on a budget. So I get to this yard sale and they had about thirty on a table priced at $1 each. Three of them I recognized as bottles worth closer to $5-$10 each and already had many that they had but the price was really good. So I asked how much they wanted for the lot. The guy scratched his head and said "Well I got hundreds of them in boxes out back. Think you might be interested in the whole lot?" He too me to the back yard behind his garage and he had more than hundreds. A quick count of just three cardboard boxes showed there was an average of about 80 bottles per box. He had 32 boxes. I asked what he would take for the whole lot and he asked if I would go $50. I pulled out a hundred dollar bill and handed it to him and he said he couldn't make change and I told him if he helped me load them he could keep the change. We got my van all loaded up and I could see his excitement in getting rid of them. I could see his wife was even more excited. She told me my purchase was more than they made selling everything else combined at it was the end of the second day. It was months before I had an exact count. Every one of them had been dug from a 19th century refuse dump in New England. The total topped out at over 2500 bottles. Roughly 1100 were worthless to any collector. Most had some sort of damage or were too plain or common. Many had some sort of decorative value so I advertised that entire lot for sale on Craigslist and waited. Three weeks later I got a call from a prop master who wanted to look at them if I promised not to clean them. He came by that afternoon, took one look and offered me $200. That was the junk. I then went through them for ones to add to my own collection. That came to about 230 bottles which more than doubled the size of my collection. Some were quite rare and a few were valuable but I would not part with any of those and still have them. I then went through the rest and grouped them in 27 lots of 25 bottles, 41 lots of 10 bottles, 9 lots of 5 bottles and 39 single bottles. It took me three years to sell them all and ended up clearing a little over $3900 on eBay. That came to a total of $4100 or almost exactly $4000 profit. I spent roughly 200 hours between the time it took buying them and taking them home and the time I spent sorting and photographing and listing then packaging up and shipping everything. So roughly $20 an hour net. Not bad. At the time I was earning $17 an hour at my job. Plus more fun than operating a machine.

@FirstLast-dt5jk3 жыл бұрын
@A Ng only you think of it like that. Everyone has that inner child inside them, no matter how old they've become. So what if he collects what you call "toys" at least he is happy with his life. Pretending to be matured while being miserable inside is worse. I pity your partner and male siblings and even father for having someone like you in the family who thinks toys are only for kids

This is a great lesson in why you need to bring the initial cost as low as possible, it’s probably going to take hours of research, and time, and shipping costs to sell these things so afterwards the cost per piece will be well above the deal made in the beginning. I feel like a lot of people that are new to reselling don’t understand this concept.

My children and I have been collecting Funko Pops for a little over a year now, we currently have over 300, all boxed. I'm so jealous youse live in America and it's a bigger thing over there compared to Australia, the garage sales like this would be amazing. Whilst it's definitely growing in popularity here, it's surely not as prevalent like the US. Good pick up mate! 😍

i didn't really feel like doing exact math but just guessing around, every funko is $10 retail on average, $30 for the big ones, probably almost 200 of the small ones on that table, and a decent amount of big ones, probably safe to say if these were all in boxes, the table would be worth around $3000 retail, not including the ones that go up in value and you got them for $170, amazing deal! Edit: i commented this before your commentary at the end of the video, and i pretty much repeated what you said lol

When you were explaining your search process for them, I was curious if eBay supported search operators to streamline the process a bit, and it does. If you wanted to search for a spock funko and include the 3 terms you mentioned, in a single search, you could use "spock funko (loose, no box, oob)" as a search string.
