Hi, Compliments on a well prepared and informative video! Small correction: The meat in souvlaki and gyros is pork, not lamb! Dolmadakia are usually without meat. If they are, it is never lamb, it's beef or veal mince and they will have avgolemono (whisked egg and lemon sauce) on top. You may take my word for it, as a Greek from Athens who loves gastronomy! ❤ And Yes we usually do give a tip: 1 or 2 euros for the waiter, at restaurants, cafés and delivery staff! You don't have to, but unless you are on a really tight budget or not satisfied, a little something is courteous.

I want to go back! I love Spanakopita (and everything else we have to be honest) tzatziki is such a lovely accompaniment to everything. We also had a Michelin star meal at a restaurant at Mikrolimano Harbour, Piraeus, it was the first time we’ve ever done it and it was a fabulous experience. I really enjoyed your video, bought back great memories - and showed me how much we missed!

I TOTALLY know what you mean and I want to go back, too 😩 Ooo, we were debating a Michelin star restaurant on the harbor, too, but ultimately decided with CTC. What was the atmosphere like on the harbor? In my mind I imagine a table at sunset by the water 😊 Thanks so much for watching and I wish you a very happy return trip!

@@FrolicAndCourage the harbour was lovely. It was already dark so no sunset. The whole area was a bit busy but becoming more so by the time we left, the surrounding restaurants weren’t busy when we went in from memory. The restaurant was open fronted at first floor level (I think you might call it second floor in USA as we call the ground level ground floor?!) so the table was under cover but “outside” so we had a lovely view too. Ours was part of an arranged trip so we didn’t know anything much about it other than it was a fish based restaurant. The level of detail on presentation was unbelievable. We enjoyed all the food so much. I really enjoyed places where it felt like it was home cooked. One location, again as part of the tour was large labels to share with paper table cloths and lots of food to share - huge Greek salads, and other things I can’t remember the names of (tomato fritters?) it was relaxed and fun (very similar to in Turkey too ) We are Northern Europe next so very different. Happy travels

Thank you for sharing the experience. We will be in Athens next month and we intend to go to CTC. What is the dress code for it?
@FrolicAndCourage
@FrolicAndCourage 10 ай бұрын
Happy to share, kobiorama, thank YOU for watching! Based on what we and people around us wore, I’d say the dress code is “dressy casual”. Guys had collard shirts 👕 and/or blazers. Women wore nice dresses 👗 or a nice silky shirt and fashionable jacket with pants. The atmosphere is upscale yet relaxed. No shorts, flip flops, athletic shoes, or anything too casual or revealing. I also didn’t see anyone with a tie or anything super formal, but we sat outside under heat lamps for a few hours, so be mindful of the temperature at night 👍🏽🙂

The food you describe here are just the basic types of greek food, like the most touristy. So much more delicious food is to be had in Greece. Like baked feta or giouvetsi to name just two not to mention all the sweet treats or desserts . I think you have to go back to Greece

90% of the dishes you mentioned are Turkish. yoghurt, baklava, tzatziki, gyros (Turkish doner), dolma, loukma-des, mousakka.

The Turks adopted Greek foods from the Greeks of Asia Minor. How is Turkish? Did they cook them on the steppes of Asia where the Turks come from?
@erdemozcan5435
@erdemozcan5435 6 ай бұрын
@@antogou really? These dishes belong to the Turks both etymologically and historically. Turks didnt eat rocks in Central Asia. Before the 1920s, there were no gyros or moussaka in Greece.
@MrAdmitos
@MrAdmitos 6 ай бұрын
@@erdemozcan5435 nope, most of these foods have other names also, but due to ottoman rule over the area some turkish or arab names still are in use. Secondly, most of the ingredients are mediterranean, that's why you can see the similarities between greek, arab persian etc cuisine. As for gyros the main ingredient is pork, just saying. You have to understand that people use to eat here even before the arrival of the turks. Plus, we have many recipes in greek, arabic and farsi that are older then 12 ce. AD. Cheers!
