At 60yrs nowI have an overwhelming desire to help a young guy who spends his day quietly with a cup outside my local supermarket. I am a little afraid of appearing condescending so I have to work on my approach. Perhaps I'll start by inviting him for a coffee. Thank you for your inspiration.

@@marcberube3729 It went very well indeed. I helped him get a job. He is not alcoholic or drug user. Just fell on bad times. The experience has also changed my life ... I gave my house to my bank and I've relocated to the island of Ibiza. My kids are grown up now and don't need me I seem to gain more in life by giving. I am careful and safe. Most times I offer a day's work rather than money. Sometimes it is just enough to lend an ear.

@@marcberube3729 A word of advice from an old fart. If you truly want to hekp those less fortunate than you, then get up close ... imprint your own personality & character on them. A regular dealer would've laughed all the way to the bank. Admittedly, at first, I thought he should get all the money, but I'm glad you shared your story about your own life. I have a story to tell to. A homeless to Harvard type situation with no help - friends and family all abandoned me, which I didn't deserve. They thought I was a loser for trusting and forgiving bad people who had hurt me which put me in further danger. Only a Disability Pension to stay somewhat afloat (which I am so grateful for). Twenty years worth of survivalism. Finished High School at 45yo. Got a scholarship into the best Uni in Australia (which I didn't expect). But I'm half way through my degree and really struggling... Wish me luck.

This was an incredible and long awaited update. I can't believe how great he's doing! And he looks 10 years younger! Many homeless people frequented the shop I used to work at, and they were by far more kind and considerate than the other patrons. They are people. And it's really sad how infrequently they were treated as such. My boss insisted I dump the hot coffee down the drain at the beginning of my evening shift but I always let the homeless people have it for free, _why_ would you discard something purposefully just so someone in need can't have it? I know it's not the same magnitude of a gesture, but it's really easy to be a good person and Alex just went above and beyond on this one. He very well may have saved this man's life. It's truly inspirational to see good, genuine good will to all, in these desperate times. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to the Archbolds, and to anyone reading this.

@@LittleCarol Thank you so much Carol! I'd just heard so many awful stories from them about clerks who would not only throw away perfectly good food, but ruin it first (like dump water on it) to "keep the homeless out of their trash". It's morally wrong to do something like that. Beyond which, I was a female working alone and was never scared because they looked out for me,& I felt much safer with them around. It's not different from any friendship except that they appreciated it so much more because of how they were treated on a regular basis. Thank you again, you brought a tear to my eyes because I certainly wasn't trying to be boastful, just an example of something small that takes up no time or energy and can make someone feel better. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones, Carol!

@Iam Notafan Notafan ; it is the lack of caring by many people that causes many to be homeless for many years ! Programs that are supposed to help people on the street are NOT designed to reduce the homeless population in spite of your belief ! Those programs are designed to KEEP homeless HOMELESS so that leftists have a permanent source of funding for a never ending job ! It is a simple jobs program for the truly useless members of society ... they're called commie libs & mostly are in demoncratic party in U.S. & similar modern lib commie socialist marxist circles. If more people cared including families and relatives and they did not simply make an automatic assumption of drug & alcohol problems etc THEN the problem would be solved ! Many Mental cases that are assumed 2B Mental can be cured by placing them in a normal group environment center surrounded by people going through govt & industry retraining centers & along with good nutrition & caring CHRISTIAN ( True Christians ) Counseling ; Those people can be returned to normal health status in both mental & physical status . I never thought I'd be in homeless community for about 18 years but in so doing I became a street minister of sorts and called by my long term friends as a true Saint since they know of the many miracles that have been occurring in my life despite being Homeless ! . NEVER assume someone is this or that until you actually have spent time long enough to know the true story .................

When we first saw him he was really beaten down and hungry, thin and sad. This is a story of epic proportions, there are so many on the streets all over the world and all it takes is for someone to treat those who are homeless with dignity and care. Thank you for doing both for this man. He now looks so happy and relaxed and I am glad you have kept in contact with him and you have become friends. People like to categorize all homeless people as druggies or the like. But so many of them just get stuck like this or like Alex's family when he was a child. I am blessed I was never homeless but we went through winters without heat and had bare cupboards more than once when I was a kid. As an adult I am careful to never judge people without knowing their story and to help as often as I can. I always wish I could do more though.

@Michele Around 30-40% homeless people do have a mental illness, which just makes their situation all the more tragic: so often, the help they need is just down the street, but not made available to them.

A good lesson in just NOT judging or assuming. 9 times out of 10 we are wrong. Alex and his family really show what heart and love and hard work can do not only for ourselves but more importantly others. Merry Christmas all! I wanna be more like an Archbold in 2020 👍🏻💕

I am a firm believer in the ripple effect, doing something nice for people can make ripples that change the world. Buy helping this guy out you not only changed his life forever, you changed the life’s of those around him that probably had no idea he needed their help from so far away. His children will benefit and so the small act of kindness will go on for generations. Well done for making a difference!

What a difference! Wow! With his hair cut like that, he looks 10 years younger! He has a great job, a home to live in and family. And YOU did that Alex!!! You didn’t have to do that, but you did. You have a heart of gold! Your parents raised you right. You found your sister, and love her like you’ve known her your whole life. If you did tell someone, they would think that you two have been close since childhood. Then there’s the Potter’s house, that you gave the family so much back. Then if that weren’t enough, there’s Hans! Because of your love of people and humanity, he now has a home full of furniture, a wardrobe and money in the bank. And I know it won’t be the last thing you do to help others, but you helped your Mom and some family friends. Not because you had to, but because you are such a loving person! You have changed SO many people’s lives, for the good! Not a lot of people can say that. And you have an AMAZING wife and kids, family! You are a lucky man, and you spread that around. I started watching your channel around a year ago, and keep being at awe on all of your many endeavors and adventures! I will forever be a huge fan! I love Melissa’s channel too. What a story you will have to some day tell your grandchildren. Thank you and God Bless such a Great man! 🙏🏻😊❤️ Joanne

I agree with the fire, but my other greatest fear is drowning. I've been homeless, thankfully had a car to live in and it only lasted 3 very long weeks, but it's something I know I could survive again if need be, hopefully will never need to do that again. I was blessed with an amazing manager at the convenience store I was working at, who caught me washing my hair in the backroom sink before my shift one day, and him and his family invited me in for a place to stay until I got back on my feet. Alexander and Melissa remind me very much of those awesome people who entered my life when I needed help back then. Long time ago!
