Forgot to mention a few other things I always pack.... A spare pair or laces (these always just stay in my pack in a wee pocket), and some moist toilet tissues which I wrap up in a small plastic bag (having a dog, I just use poo bags) with some spare to put any used ones in to dispose of after. Very handy if you are caught short in the wild!! Another item I usually pack is a penknife. This has come to the rescue before when I had to cut out a piece of my shoe that was rubbing badly on the Race Across Scotland!

Great timing, I have a 57km race this coming weekend and the weather is calling for rain and cold conditions with snow once we start climbing. Your TOR 330 video came to mind as your video showed times in snow, in the high mountains. Thanks for your content

Good luck with your race!! Mountains and snow add an extra level of consideration of what to pack!!

Cheers for the video Paul! I just filmed an exact same video 😂 (gear for 100 miles) so it was awesome having an insight into your approach! ❤

Ah cool, will need to check it out! I quite like an impromptu video.... Otherwise I just spend too long over thinking it!! 😂

Great video. Only addition I have to make here downunder is to throw in a snake bandage…..Thankfully I haven’t had reason to use it yet as they are more interested in getting out of my way when we see each other
@TheRandomRunner16 күн бұрын
And thankfully we don't need to think about that here!! Although we do very rarely get small adders, only ever seen one!

Always great videos Paul. I can’t believe you had time to record this nature an 80k run. Legend I hope your calf recovers quickly.

Thank you!! I knew that if I didn't just film it there and then, I would end up giving it too much thought and it might never get done!!

Thanks for this, very useful as I have my first 1/2 marathon trail run next April and getting my head around all the kit list requirements is new to me so this been really good especially the tip about keeping the water bladder in the freezer and how to stop it making that annoying sloshing noise😂 all the best.

So glad the video was helpful! That sloshing noise has always been a pet hate 😂 Good luck with the trail race!

Much appreciated video! Love all your videos, the training runs, race videos are always informative and inspirational and you are on of the best out there for practical help! Now, can we talk pants? What is the underwear of choice for the long runs? Few ultras under my belt and gearing up for first 100mile effort in the new year. Thanks!
@TheRandomRunner16 күн бұрын
Cheers man, so glad to hear you enjoy the videos!! So, underwear... It's always pants/briefs for me, def not boxers and I always cut out a brief that is attached the shorts, prefer using my own and feels better. I mostly use decathlon running briefs, but also have a few pairs of Runderwear. The fit is slightly different so can be a welcomed change on a long run!

Very informative ,thanks! The bladder tip will be tested shortly😊. Is it better to have a single jacket that is wind and waterproof in order to save space and weight? Instead of packing 2 jackets
@TheRandomRunner16 күн бұрын
Possibly, although since getting the windproof one I've really enjoyed wearing it, love how light and free it feels. The fact it weighs hardly anything and packs down so small then it's no problem to pack. But obviously if things get really wet or cold then it's better to have the slightly thicker waterproof! Oh and once you do the bladder trick... There's no going back!! 😂

Great video and Happy Christmas 🎄! You're a very experienced runner and it's great to see all the adventures you do. I love inov8 as a brand, but their waterproof jackets are not quality. I have to ask... what makes you say it's a good jacket? I had the stormshell and they replaced it 3 times (very good customer service) but it never was waterproof. I got a goretex in the end. Would definitely like to know why you say its a good jacket 😅 have a great end to the year 😊
@TheRandomRunner18 күн бұрын
Hello! Glad u liked the video. Regarding the jacket... I like the breathability, the fit, how packable it is, I like the material (not overly stretchy like some others), and it's proving to be pretty durable, plus it was half price in black Friday sale last year!! 😂 Also the last jacket I had was the OMM Kamleika which was pants so in comparison... This one is good! What goretex one did you go for?
@TanyaOct13 күн бұрын
@TheRandomRunner totally agree it's a nice fit and packs down really well. I got the goretex concurve and it's done me well so far on a very soggy 50km and some other runs recently. I think where I overheat the inov8 one was suffering and soaking through. Not sure! This concurve one is doing a good job so far (and I got 30% off with a strava code 😀)👏 happy running

Thanks for the video. I really enjoy your content. Just a question with the 1.5L bladder. How do you find refilling it on a long run - I assume you had to fill it up again over the 60km. I've just started using a bladder, but haven't had to refill it while out running yet.
@TheRandomRunner16 күн бұрын
Hey there! If I had continued the run I would've probably bought some form of energy drink at a shop and decanted it into my soft flask. Filling the bladder can be a bit annoying but have got it mastered on a long run where I don't need to take it out...i just slide open the top, pour water in and then squeeze the bladder till water just spills over the edge, making sure i get all the air out before closing it back over! Bag usually gets a bit wet but considering it's usually raining here I really don't mind 😂

I’ve got the guzzler 100 in Brisbane in July mate saw your video and thought why not 😂😂😂 I’ve done a few marathons before and 6-10 half’s also. Any tips on what to take on a 100km big man and some of your food intake while training for your runs. Happy Xmas to you and the family
@TheRandomRunner17 күн бұрын
Just been looking up the Guzzler... Sounds great and seems like they support you pretty well with stocked checkpoints so I guess the only extra nutrition you'd need to think about is some easy digest gels to top you up between checkpoints plus any treats that might help.... Or even some caffeine gels! Otherwise I'd just rely on checkpoint food to keep me going! Good luck with it and hope training going well!

Yeah very true, I actually had meant to weigh it all, have done it previously and usually about 6 - 7kg. Next thing I've signed up for is the UTS 100 miler in may but I'm sure I'll do a few big things before then!! And you?
