General Suzuki, I don't know everything about Floyd's business operations, but here are 3 ways he does what you're asking about: 1) He is his own promoter, there is no Bob Arum or whoever that Floyd has to check with to accept a fight. 2) Some of the people in his camp are his relatives. Look in his corner and you'll see his father (Floyd SR.) and Roger (his uncle), people he can trust and who aren't robbing him financially. 3) He likely pays some people a flat fee or by project rather than hourly! Of course when you're as big as him it saves you time to have others doing certain things, so you can't cut everyone out. Hope this answer your question.

Exactly! look in Floyd's corner and the people you'll see who aren't actually related to Floyd, have been around him for at least 10yrs or more and he has complete trust in them, they are as follows; Leonard Ellarby, Rafael Garcia (his cut man), and Mark Jones (he wears pads, etc so Floyd can do body work).

The government is only going to tax the profits not the entire amount.So according the the math it would be 2000*.43=860, 2000-860=1140*.33=376.2 so take-home amount would be 763.8. It would also depend on the tax bracket.

Promoters take all the risk of the event itself, theyre responsible for everything from the staff in the venue to the type of cups used for drink, all expenses come out of pocket so if the event flops and you end up spending more than you made and lose money its a big burn. Theres a reason for promoters fighters just gotta be aware their interests are diametrically opposed but can be mutually beneficial.

ok, time to become a promoter then. you pay for the venue, ring and venue setup, event staffing, judges, ref, ring doctors, state commission, ring card girls, boxers, ambulances with paramedics required to be at venue at all times, insurance, promoters license and event promotions, overhead, print tickets, stage weigh in, all the time staging and promoting the event, all up front, before you make a dime off the event, if you ever make a dime off it. take out your calculator and add all the stuff up. now estimate ticket revenues and whatever other money you think you can make off a local event like that. now consider the event can get canceled at any time after most of this money is out the window and and all the ticket holders get refunds. "0 risk", dude. go for it.

@mp4vids 5 жыл бұрын
+PaperChasersAz - Promoting can be a serious risk. Your job is to maximize profits, but it is your matchmaker that can either make or break you. Based on the level of upset and the amount of money you may have invested in a fighter can really impact you down the line. Personally, owning a management company is the better alternative because you just deal with finding fights for your fighters. If you have your own matchmaker who is solid, then you have it made. All you have to do is find a promoter and pay the fee for being on their card. You will handle the purses for your fighters and their opponents, medicals, airline and hotel fees. Besides, if you have a small number of fighters, you have more flexibility in terms of cash flow to advance your fighters to where a promoter may want to sign them and of so, the promoter can pay that management company in order to have that fighter as their own while the manager can still collect a percentage fee of the boxer's purse. It's a win-win situation!

@mp4vids
@mp4vids 5 жыл бұрын
A good manager is someone who has a strong financial backing to pay his/her fighters. They normally have a business on the side. Also have some good scouts who know where to search for talent before they are discovered by the big dogs! Building strong relationships with matchmakers, fellow managers and promoters will take you a long way. Also, getting to know fightfax.com and boxrec.com are literally your way of life! You have managers that can pay out bonuses, provide monthly stipends for their fighters and if you're on the high end, you can even coordinate transportation and housing which is why certain managers are going to charge a higher percentage. The situation depends on the fighter. If you are looking to be a manager in the future, I wish you the best! If you ask me, being a matchmaker is one of the best kept secrets, but also a thankless job, however, everyone is connected to you. You are the one who can either make or break careers. Your phone will never stop ringing. The texts are relentless as they come in on a consistent basis, but all eyes are on you when an opponent pulls out at the last minute and the manager and/or promoter needs that last minute replacement like yesterday...lol!!

usually paydays can depend on your amateur background, sponsors, and how popular you are. I've heard of unknown journeymen getting $40,000 to fight on undercards. decent money, and if you win you get closer to a title shot. which is $100k guaranteed or more.

The first initial examples would leave you with 808 bucks. Starting off, you ain't going to be needing a "manager" for no in the club type of fights. Your trainer can find those. 2nd, in the beginning, you are also not needing a strength and conditioning coach because they are 1 in the same with your trainer. Your first goal is to find a trainer who is knowledgeable in fitness and boxing and savvy to local boxing matches in the outer circuits. If you're going pro, you ain't needing all that in the beginning. A trainer would only take 10% to stay fair and keep himself afloat. To stay neutral..... maybe you take on a manager to set up fights, looking for the better payouts, other than that.... from 2000, you take home (minus 10 to 15%) 1800 to 1700 bucks. After that, the tax cut for 1800 as a side income is deducted.

john stevens Probably paid him much less. Rios can dictate terms down to less money for the management. His manager might only have a 10% stake, his trainer might just receive a flat rate, as do his cornermen. He can get fights on name alone, he BARELY needs a manager at this stage of his career. That is the norm for boxers that make $1m or more EVERY fight. They don't just hand out that 33% anymore.

33% for the US government is way too much off the top it comes off of the bottom after your deductibles and expenses. After all said and done you ould end up paying 0%-15%/20% maximum of the balance after the manager and coach get their share. 2000-33% for manager & -10% for coach = 860 then you have write offs to make your taxable gross income much less. Best bet is To have an LLC and a business bank account and deposit the money into that. Write off travel expenses, gas, hotel, gym membership, equipment and supplies costs, cell phone, etc. Pay your taxes quarterly.

I did that calculation in seconds man I got you. I'm a mechanical engineering student. So, from a $2,000 purse, a fighter would earn $480. 33 + 33 + 10 -100 = |-24| 0.24*2000 = $480 earned from a $2,000 purse. So in order to find how big of a purse that you would need to find to win x amount, multiply it by 0.24, unless you're out of your old contract.

He’s right at this point you’re basically a nobody doing it for grocery money with the hopes you’ll keep winning and growing in popularity. Boxing is a dirty business even for the top athletes.

manny pacquiao is stupid in business..instead of promoting himself and quit top rank like Floyd did..he would be better and probably that fight with Money happen long ago..He doesn't need a promoter anymore Manny is famous as Floyd is..and i think He has the ability to promote himself like a superstar

promoters stage the events and handle every single detail that entails and pay for everything up front, even if the fight gets cancelled. just being a good boxer does not mean you can handle the business side of staging and promoting an event. it's not nearly as easy as you think.

only the top dogs make a good living out of boxing....you can only fight for a short period of time..so you need to save a lot of your money...boxing aint the job if you wanna get rich...Dont be fooled by Mayweather and Pacquiao's salaries..

Boxingisthebomb thats pretty much the case- you shouldn't really consider pro boxing unless you've got a good chance to go FAR, meaning if you're not truly talented the risk isn't worth it- but if u can get on TV the networks usually pay 10k+ per fight depending on your record, background, and how big your name is, You also wouldn't have to shell out so much for a promoter at that point, but 1 BIG thing you'll have to worry about for obvious reason are medical bills, hence a lot of boxers retiring broke or fighting way past their prime simply because they need the $$

The money is out of the Boxing business...Less than 10 fighters in the world make over $1 million dollars a fight. Never heard of Brandon Krause, he has never trained one world champion, he is not paid well either, Elie makes no real money doing these videos.
