This video is similar to what happened to me. I was from a humble family from Syria and we left our homes because of the war. Years later, I decided to learn languages and began to improve my English in Syria, knowing that there was no internet or electricity. Every day there was an hour. Only one electricity and the rest of the day without electricity. I studied high school and decided to travel to Russia to learn the Russian language, and now I am in Finland and I am trying to learn the Finnish language and I want to study languages when enrolling in university and Thank you for this wonderful channel. I have been following you for several years, and this story inspired me very much

Although it's slightly challenging to live in Ukraine with the current situation, I don't give up on my learning and life. Hard work, sooner or later, will bear delicious fruit. So I want to say, Zoe, thank you very much for sharing your motivating and inspiring story with us or in Chinese Zoe 我想要告诉你感谢, 我觉得你很棒! I'm proud of you and your achievements. I hope my potentially insignificant comment can make it to you and that I will be able to overcome my challenges like you did. I have listened to your story on your Chinese channel and I am glad that you posted a video about it here as well, with much more different details. I felt so moved by your emotions and noticed your eyes almost in tears at some points. Thank you so much for taking courage and sharing your story. Thank you for showing us what has been behind the scenes, the difficulties you have been through. Your "weaknesses" and how you overcome difficulties help people relate more to you and even find solutions and encouragement for their lives. Personally, I would like to hear more stories from your life about anything, especially how did you overcome certain challenges. I would also like to know how do you prepare for an exam (ex. Study methods, routines), how to heal from burnout, what are your future plans after completing your PhD. I would also love to see your daily routine videos of different day sequences. By the way, there was such a video on your channel, but now is unavailable and I am so sorry. Everytime I feel unmotivated, watching your routine gives me a fresh motivation. I have been through my last BA year with a lot of inspiration taken from you. Maybe in one video you would like to share with us how your teacher life and goals look like. To be a teacher suits you so well. I would love to hear more about Zoe the teacher and maybe you can share more books and journals you have read and even articles you published. I know this message is quite long, but I am very enthusiastic about this video and your openness. I wish you all the best with your exams and presentation and hope to hear from you soon. Lady A.

Love this! I study Chinese at university as an adult just because I love languages. It is unusual and I have different struggles and pressures than my classmates. I am the same age as my professors and sometimes I feel embarrassed that they have important careers and I don't. But mostly I feel so lucky to have the time to study while also doing my time-flexible job. One of my much younger classmates said "wow. I guess you really can change your whole life even when you are old!" So I felt proud and glad he learned that from my experience. 😂 我刚刚认识到应该练习中文写这篇文章。”篇文章”我刚刚学习这个新词。

A very emotional story zoe. I really loved hearing the challenges you overcome to become who you are.I could feel the pain in your voice when you were saying your health became poor because of over work. A good decision to reduce your workload and pay for health. Regarding study abroad, even I gave up my dream for study abroad seeing tuition fees in US. It is only after I got know about tuition fees in Europe that fulfilled my dream. And yes it comes with the caveat of learning the local language. And from struggling to learn French you have now become a polygot. So proud of you!!!

Thank you for this very moving video! I started my French language lessons about 3 years ago, and I truly appreciate how hard you have worked. I had a similar experience to yours when I studied in Germany. I became fluent in German by immersing myself in all kinds of activities when I wasn't in class. It was so painful but satisfying. Now that I'm in my 70's, and learning French, I am having so many memories of those earlier struggles. Your videos inspire me to persevere!

This was such a touching story, thank you SO much for sharing it. I also have a love for languages and I started with Chinese :). It has been officially 3 years and I still struggle with holding a conversation with Chinese people. I am familiar with a good decent amount of characters and I do immerse heavily on watching Chinese dramas/movies in order to acquire the language better. There have been times that I just want to quit but I realize that I have come far in this language. I may not be where I want to be but I am not where I was, so that keeps me going. I have invested so much time trying to learn Chinese that I cannot go back, nor do I want too. I also have been studying Persian, Arabic, Russian, Thai, and a small fragment of Japanese, and I took up German for college this coming fall, because they did not have Chinese so I went with German. I did German last year and failed miserably because I did not put enough time to study due to work (which requires long hours of sitting down, sedentary job) and having one kid, a single mom, so it was SO very hard for me and challenging. How do you manage to study all of those languages, go to school, work and actually achieve that level of proficiency? It's so amazing. I am very inspired by your video, and I hope that one day I will get to that level in the other languages that I am currently learning. Thank you for sharing your video, it was truly the highlight of my day.
so inspiring!!! I come from a regular family as well and they have a fixed mindset, even now. my mom and dad couldn't effort for me to have a higher study so I have worked so hard, no party, no shopping at all just to save up and pursue my dream which is studying abroad and see how big the world is. Now I'm nearly there and I feel like age and your background cannot stop you no matter what. thank you for your wonderful sharing. love

Congratulations for that! 🥳 You are very inspiring. Also i am glad that you‘ve mentioned how long it took you to reach a proficient level in Arabic. I love the culture and the language, but it really broke my self-esteem. I started over and over again, but it won’t stick to my head. I found your video on learning French accidentally and I really liked it because your tips were actually really good. I checked some of the resources you recommended and they turned out to be very helpful for self-learners. I'm usually very skeptical about youtubers who claim to speak many languages because many of them often haven't even reached fluency in any of them. Some of those "KZbin polyglots" actually speak many languages but were spoon-fed the knowledge by private tutors and so their advice is useless. But your channel is not one of these. I find your channel very inspiring! I speak two languages fluently and two languages rather poorly (German, French). Thanks to you I have made myself a challenge to reach fluency in those two as well! Speaking 4 languages fluently seemed to me like an impossible challenge previously, thank you for letting me know that with hard work it is possible. You spoke of your studies in some previous videos and I was actually wondering what's the exact field you are in. I even once tried to google any of the research papers you wrote but I failed. I would be interested in learning more about your research, unless you find this too intruding on your personal/professional life. I really liked the last part of the video about the growth mindset. Thanks for sharing your story, it's very motivating. Cheers.

Hello, Zoe! It would be really nice to see videos about books you read on your channel. E.g. what you've read in French before coming there, what books you've loved, which ones have influenced you. It is an extremely interesting topic! Hope, you'll consider making such videos

Your story was very touching, especially the part about your supportive family. I'm sure they are as incredibly proud of you as you are of them 😊

Thank you for sharing your language and life journey story. I came across your videos when I sought other tools to aid my learning of Mandarin. The growth mindset concept is one that really resonates with me, as I've felt that my career wouldn't be what it has become without that focus and belief foundation. You are the perfect example that it is real and not just a concept. You are a genuine person and an excellent storyteller. Keep up the good work and good luck on your thesis!

I had this video of yours on one of my tabs for some time slowly listening to it daily. I am doing my best to learn Mandarin, but today it got laughed at by a group of people and I felt terrible. So happens your video fell onto the part where you speak about something similar, and now I am all ready to pick-self up again. To summarize, I am saying Thank you.
