With a revenue of over €10,93 billion as of 2019, Chanel is a French luxury fashion house that was started by Gabrielle Chanel, who is one of the most powerful women in the world of fashion. This is her story and journey that paved paths for the brand to grow in ways that it has. She managed to create her own empire in a world ruled by men and proved to be better in fact.
She was the one who introduced pants for women and decided that there was no comfortable way to ride a horse while wearing a long skirt. She was always a risk-taker which definitely made her go places! But did you know she spent her childhood in poverty? Gabrielle was sent to an orphanage run by nuns in Aubazine called 'The sisters of the sacred heart’ after her mom passed away and this is where she spent most of her time growing up.
Her designs reigned supreme even then, with their close attention to comfort and simplicity and yet their slick elegance and style. Her fashion and her life are an inspiration to almost everyone in fashion, even today.
Famously known as Coco Chanel, she was the one who gave us the most famous perfume, Chanel No 5. The perfume was launched in 1921 and had its place in history secured when the legendary Marilyn Monroe was asked what she wore to bed and she answered “Just a few drops of Chanel No 5″.
