That kid reminds me of the time I was trying to teach my daughter our home address. Figuring it would be handy if she ever got lost or needed to call emergency services. So I would randomly ask her for our address to check she has it right. Then one time I asked, "So what's our address?" She just told me the first line (door number and street name). So I then prompted "and where is that?" She ran to the street door openned it and pointed through the open door, proudly saying "There it is!".

I remember a 999 call years ago from a woman who wanted someone to come over to help her repair a puncture on her wheelchair. But I do think one problem with these kind of calls are that these people aren't aware of other numbers for less important situations. And that 999 is an all-in-one number for any service.

I'm surprised the dispatchers stayed on the line as long as they did with some of these time-wasters. I just used to clear the line straight away (at the ambulance service) and say only call back for a genuine emergency. If they kept calling back I'd report it to the police who were allowed to block them. Every second you are on the line with these time-wasters, there is potentially someone in cardiac arrest having their response time delayed.

The problem is that, if you don't deal with the situation quickly, that extra food will go to waste. Nobody wants their savaloy and chips to get cold, so it's quite an emergency.
