Evan is speaking the truth! I've retired in the Philippines and live like a king on just my pension and social security. I have everything I could ever want and feel completely safe even if I'm the only Westerner walking through a busy mall. Bonus is I don't have to learn another language to interact with the society. I have learned some Tagalog words along the way and use them when I can, that just make the smiles bigger with who I consider the happiest people on the planet.

@@freyafoxmusicIt is not “excellent”. Are you Filipino? Have you lived elsewhere? There are a handful of decent hospitals in the Metro Manila area and they aren’t cheap. My wife gave birth at the Medical City in Ortigas last year. Not a bad hospital. Definitely better than both in Cebu. Cost us $6,900. Our daughter’s checkups + vaccinations at St. Luke’s cost us over $300 a visit. In Cebu, Chong Hua was absolutely packed with people. Cebu Doctors Hospital, apparently the second best hospital in Cebu, was dirty, had outdated technology and all doctors were literally in their late 20’s. Sure, healthcare can be cheap… But there is a reason. Retirees most of all need to be aware of this.

After several years of research, I've come to the conclusion that maintaining an American-quality lifestyle in Costa Rica or the Phillipines is possible. However, it would cost the same or possibly more than simply living in the States. Yes, I can live in rural Mindoro for $1K per month, but I'd have to give up many creature comforts, lifestyle, infrastructure, and consumer goods. Move to a 2000 sq ft upscale place in BGC and I'm sure your costs will be similar to Sacramento or Portland.

Here in Southern California, two bedroom apartments 800 ft.², easily $2500 a month. And that’s not in the best neighborhood. To get an apartment that you would actually be proud of, try $3000 a month. You the apartment itself won’t be super flashy, but the grounds and amenities will be nice. In BGC, $3000 a month would get you a penthouse. I will agree that the Philippines is not as cheap as people make it out to be, but it’s still better than the US. Or at least Southern California, where I’m at. Then again, Switzerland is cheaper than where I’m at!

@@troyelam8978 True. But here in WY, $1200/Month will give you a nice two-story townhouse and an hour drive to Billings or Yellowstone Park. Walmart two blocks away, 8-lane pool, fitness center, zero crime etc. . 1st world amenities . . . in the first world.
@troyelam8978
@troyelam8978 Ай бұрын
@@mattdecker6791 OK, but then it would be more apples to apples to compare a tier 2 or three city in the Philippines to Billings, would it not? There’s also one important factor, the availability of INTERESTED women. Wait, let me rephrase that. The availability of INTERESTED, ATTRACTIVE women. Billings might have nice sidewalks, and Walmart access, but if every pretty girl working in the mall, there is treating you like you don’t exist, that might not be the most satisfying experience overall! I’ve gone to the Philippines twice, and both times I dated girls, including when I’m dating currently, that were as pretty or prettier than the prettiest girl I’ve ever dated in my life. Both of these girls are far younger than I am, and I know from 46 years of experience that it would have taken me two years of being in the friend zone, free lunches, bringing in coffee, small talk, and waiting for them to break up with their current boyfriends, just for me to get a date with either of those girls if they were from the United States. Yet in the Philippines, one trip to the Sugbo night market is all it. I’m sorry, but I’ll deal with a few potholes for that.

You get what you pay for. 1. Inflation is 10 percent in the Philippines. 2. Everything is more expensive in the Philippines "apples to apples" except for labor, public transportation (which most forms are very dangerous), haircuts, and some clothes. Western food is double to triple the price in the Philippines. The main benefit for the Philippines is if you want to live a very spartan and cheap lifestyle, you can. And an old Westerner can find a younger girl in the Philippines. Although most of the time, its a transactional relationship. Scams galore in the Philippines and Manila was just rated the Third or Fourth most dangerous city in the entire world.

This. I comment about these things on other videos but am always ignored. I really like Evan, but I can’t help but feel his content has changed since he started this consulting side hustle. Housing, especially compared to other SE Asian countries like Malaysia and Thailand is ridiculously expensive. The landlord listed the 2BR condo in Forbestown that I am currently renting. Asking 18m pesos (~$310,000) for a 76sqm place. Almost all of the resources in the country are centralized in Metro Manila. You want decent healthcare? You’re going to pay for it and your options are limited as to where you can get care. Want western food? You’re going to pay a premium at Landers or S&R for it. You want a job? Tough, those don’t exist for you here. Have kids? Opportunities are scarce and the things that do exist will cost as much as back in the US. Want to send your kids to a decent school? You’re going to pay at least $8,000 a year and it will go up to over $15,000 as they get older. And outsourcing? Filipinos are constantly looking for shortcuts when it comes to work. It’s never “How can this job be performed the best?” It’s always “How can I get this done the fastest?”… No one is ever on time. They do not respect the time of anyone here. My wife is Filipino. My daughter is half. This comes from a place of love… But I’m not going to pretend it isn’t true. So tired of the whole picture being obscured.
