I have bad anxiety and noticed Bert does that too. I thought maybe it was just anxiety especially given that they fly a lot of small 50-70 year old planes in Alaska, flying in them would make me really anxious.

Many times when under pressure, it is good to just stop, look about, evaluate the situation, pray, and then move ahead slowly (if possible) always keeping your mind and emotions clear and calm. So many people panic and plow ahead without a plan and loose because they freeze emotionally. " Saw it happen more than once ". I learned this from " many " emergencies over my 80 plus years. Yes, I survived when others around me did not. That's why I saw my 80th birthday come and go.

I work in healthcare and I can't imagine a job that isn't under pressure most of the time. 24 hour shifts. Watching your Chanel gives me a slower paced envy. No city driving, I don't hear about crime, or a long commutes etc.

I don't know who is responsible for the overall maintenance at Coldfoot, but it sure looks like they were asleep at the switch right now. Why were the clapped out generators not replaced in the summer?

Surely this is where what passes for an elected town council is in charge of planning? If those old generators were to fail completely, inhabitants would die, simple as. Plus, it's not just the local community, others are literally taking their lives in their hands to fix this problem: Bert Somers. The pilot of that tiny plane. The truck drivers who may have to drive up from Anchorage with a replacement generator, and other ancillary persons needed for this sort of endeavour. And Jessica, of course, who always puts on a brave face when Bert hot foots it to Coldfoot in those awful, icy conditions, but it must be extremely worrying for her all the time till he's back home.

You folks are always so busy. I was surprised that Derrick isn’t in charge of the fire place. I know he is like a kid but he has been looking after the fire wood for awhile. He probably can walk miles around his mother with looking after the fire. I know you folks hate having people tell them how to run your family. This weekend I know what cold weather is, too! My oil boiler (furnace in America) stopped working on Thursday morning and it's difficult to get the heating engineer to come at short notice. Hopefully he'll be able to fit me in on Monday, but he is inundated with calls for assistance. Until then, it's much more expensive electricity powered fan heaters that are keeping the house moderately warm. On Friday the temperature was -6°C during the night and stayed around freezing all day. That might not sound cold by Alaskan standards, but for Britain it is cold!

It is really great to have a man around when it is cold!!!! We got a blizzard in New Mexico the first week of this month and the whole state was hit by power outages. The blizzard was not forecasted, all it said is we were going to get a wintery mix. A wintery mix is not the same as a blizzard. Are they messing with the forecasts???? I thought we were snowed in and couldn't get out and then hubby said the backhoe will get us out and I thought "oh yes I forgot about that" LOL Thank goodness for that backhoe.

Currently, in England , we have a storm called bert with snow, rain, and ice. We never experienced it as bad, and we never have snow as much these days, but we think we are going to have a bad winter. I will be prepared through watching vlogs from alaskans just in case 😊🇬🇧

I worked in healthcare. If there‘s an emergency situation you are under the most pressure you can imagine. But you need to stay in the situation and be calm and just function. Doesn‘t matter if you are tired. You have to CPR and you‘ll do it. Staying calm and focusing on your job is the way you handle it.

Bert, it depends on the pressure. To me (as an electrician familiar with 480,277,240,208,120 volts) I thrive in working conditions. I do not do so well under the pressures of running a company (I owned one for 4 years very long story). My dream is to make an incredible living out of our electrical trade in somewhere exactly like where you are. I just do not know how to get started as I’m unlicensed in AK and have plenty of room to grow. Situations like what you’re describing are where I thrive. I’m just mediocre compared to the others after that! (Gotta be humble!)

I definitely do better under pressure. I was an emergency medical technician and when there was a disaster, you just act and you just do. I did that for a couple years then I went into x-ray. There is something about trauma that makes me kick in.
