From BAMA 5⭐️ PRODIGY to FOOTBALL CAREER OVER (What Happened to Tommy Brockermeyer?)

There are only a select few offensive lineman in every recruiting class that can truly build a championship team and block in the NFL for a long time. In the class of 2021, that guy was Tommy Brockermeyer. Both him and his twin brother were big time recruits, but Tommy was the next great Bama left tackle, a top 10 recruit and a future NFL draft pick. Sadly, he never saw the field at Bama and just 3 years later, his career is already over. Today, I want to talk about his meteoric rise and what eventually happened to him, enjoy!

That’s why I don’t get overly excited about recruiting. I always say that’s a good thing, but at the end of the day results on the field is what matters

Also remember Coach Flood and Sark had just touch down in Texas in 2021 his main recruiter Flood followed Sark which was the main difference. Flood has been a god sent for Texas as our O-line has improved drastically compared to the last 15 years

Tommy was actually considered undersized for an SEC O lineman, believe it or not. He had the frame, but he struggled putting on the mass necessary for opposing SEC D-linemen. Y'know, SEC D-lines? Those supersized mutants with incomprehensible speed. Those guys. And especially so at Alabama. If you couldn't hang with the other first team opponents on the roster, Saban wouldn't start you. To play for him, you had to kick some All America/future NFL guy's ass just as much as he kicked yours if you wanted a starting position. Tommy in particular really needed another 50 lbs for Alabama, and he just couldn't put it on at a steady enough rate. Add injuries to the mix, and it all snowballed out of his control, unfortunately. We had very high hopes for both of them, but history has demonstrated that it just wasn't meant to be- *as is often the case in the world of major college recruiting.* The 5 stars tend to go bust more than pay off, in fact.

@@ATLsF1N3ST91 I think he has some upside to come this season and especially since he took the quarterback job from Sam Jackson and Ben Finley while yes those aren’t great stats but i think he managed to make the most out of his opportunities and the sample is there it’s whether if he takes it to the next level or not

If he earns it, then people will talk about it. Seems pretty pointless to talk about a mid QB at a mid school unless and until he makes a Jayden Daniels or Joe Burrow type leap (not that only LSU QBs can do it, they're just the first two recent examples to come to mind).

Yeah OL is very hard to gauge. When you are that big playing high school you will dominate most of the time. I’m shocked the camps didn’t expose them at all. Bama Has signed many 5 star OL who never saw the field.

I said it when they were still in high school. Neither one was as good as the recruiting experts thought. Mind you, they were both good. But they looked amazing up against guys getting ready to start their lengthy careers as Door Dashers or at least ushers in their local churches. Whenever the two went up against true talent, they got smushed, luckily, that wasn't too often.

I hope it wasn't internal. I know from experience that coaches can, for any number of reasons, lock onto players as "the one" when in fact there are even better players sitting on the bench. It happened to a friend of mine back in the 60's. I suspect it is still happening as the playing time versus the draft slot has been so radically different at times (especially among Bama's DBs). But I honestly hope that is not the case. I have not been a great fan of some of the DBs for Bama over the last 10 years or so. They may have known the system inside and out, but they were obviously in several areas (as their draft round confirmed). Living in Texas, I wanted these brothers to do well 'cause Texas fans can be brutal when they are on the winning side of things.

The fact that Tommy and James went to Saint Episcopal's tells me that their father sheltered them too much. He should've put them in a premiere high school where they'd grow up playing against premiere Texas high school talent, which would've prepared them both better for top college competition. Overall, I didn't think they were all that talent-wise and it showed. They couldn't compete against premiere college talent. Again, if they would've played in a high school such as Southlake Carroll, it would've built them better. You can't grow playing against prep kids.
