From Beyond By: H.P Lovecraft - Book Review

From Beyond is a short story written by H.P Lovecraft written in 1920 yet published in "The Fantasy Fan" magazine July 1934. The magazine Fantasy Fan was the first fan magazine in the weird fiction genre. Lovecraft spent most of his life in New England which is why it is very predominant in most of his stories.
The "From Beyond" film was released in 1986 and Directed By: Stuart Gordon which is the second film he has ever directed right after "Re-animator", another H.P Lovecraft inspired film. The film was up against Crocodile Dundee and Aliens which had a well established fan-base so unfortunately with a 4.5 million dollar budget the film didn't do so well generating $1,261,000 at the box-office, but has since became a very under-rated, under-appreciated cult-classic. In the film the mansion is equipped with paintings' of royalty, red carpet, and a checkerboard floor. The device to expand the third eye is called the resonator. Dr. Edward Pretorious, the owner of the house, is deep into BDSM and Bondage. Personally I would say anyone who enjoys those things is deep into cognitive dissonace or even has a form of stockholm syndrome. To enjoy pain as a pleasure, to be a glutton for punishment can be boiled down to a few various psychological issues within the psyche.
