From Bitter to Better | Acts 8 | Gary Hamrick

Have you ever battled bitterness? It’s not that uncommon. Bitterness usually sets in after one painful or disappointing event, or series of events, that rob people of the joy they once had. Sometimes bitterness is expressed outwardly-people who are mean, angry, moody, and negative. But sometimes bitterness is internal-people who are suffering on the inside but smiling on the outside. Whether external or internal, God wants to heal us of bitterness and restore the joy of our salvation. In today’s teaching, Pastor Gary shares six common causes of bitterness and then prays for God to heal those who want to be free of bitterness.

I've had a terrible couple years. I've allowed this to make me bitter! I know God has a plan. I don't have to like it. I just have to follow and obey. My mom used to always say not let anyone steal my joy. She was partially right. Turns out, I've stolen my own joy by not trusting God's plan enough. I needed this sermon. Thank you.

dear Mary, my prayers for you today. Your heart of humility and confession is beautiful, bearing much fruit already. I am convinced that bitterness is one of the greatest dangers….so subtle….for me, veiled by self-righteousness which kept me fixed on others’ failings instead of taking responsibility for my own life. ( Galatians 6:1-5) 📖. I was broken and overwhelmed when I realized that the paralyzing force in my life was my own bitterness. Freedom in confession! Joy! Purity! Kevin Rider - Believe we need also to consider that there is not just 'bitter and better' when you are going through difficult circumstances but also 'broken'. Believe bitterness can come when we don't allow ourselves to accept our brokenness and taking the things we're going through to God. If we're not careful as Christians we may view a person negatively as being bitter and cause greater affliction to an already broken person. There's a difference between 'bitterness of soul' and being a 'bitter person'. 'Bitterness of soul' may or may not be wholly a legitimate response to sin. In Hannah's situation she took it to God in tears and not in anger toward Him. He chose to answer her according to 'His will' - 'changing the circumstances' so she was no longer falsely viewed by society and the other woman she lived with as being rejected by Him. He uses our weakness and failings in many ways to teach others around us from them - so is up to Him how He answers according to how He best uses the situation, and is not limited in the way He can intervene in someone's life. All praise to God.

This message on bitterness opened my understanding regarding my relationship with my lesbian daughter who divorced her husband in bitterness? and married legally in USA another girl her , former house helper illegally staying in US working on her papers for about migration who eventually got it by marriage to my daughter - i confess i have been legalistic and sinned about this matter
