@23:10 Will those alternators disengage/shut off once the batteries are fully charged? That much power isn't free since those alternators are doing work just like the propellers.

That’s correct Rod, that’s why it’s so important to use as many MPPT’s as practically possible, as well as trying to keep panels in as much of a clear area as possible too.

What is the cost of the entire solar installation minus the batteries and inverter? Then subtract the cost of a generator. Then divide that result by the cost of a gallon of diesel. Very interesting number...

Love the L50; we are shopping. We hesitate on lithium batteries. When they go thermal-lithium, they cannot be put out. 2000 degrees of pure green energy hate. We won't put an EV in our home garage, so are not about to live in a machine powered by them. Lithium fires on boats are catching the notice of insurers, too. But to each their own. So some other (safer) battery tech is what we'll go with. Unless...maybe we can create an ejection couch for lithium, to launch them overboard if they go thermo-lithium? That'd be fun.

I remember way back when the first Tesla caught on fire in an intersection. If only I would have bought stock in them then. I'd be sailing on a Leopard 150! New tech can be scary. It has its growing pains. The question always is; Observationally, is the tech in question exhibiting the same behavior today as it was when it first came to market 'x' years ago? Each person will have to answer that and move forward with what they are comfortable with. Great comment @FamiliyManMoving!

@@TheOnDeckChannel Appreciate it. I run an engineering company staffed with electrical engineers, including those who ran reactors on nuke subs and carriers. Hardly a Luddite. When all those gents tell me they'd never park one in a garage attached to my home? I listen (my specialty is data science, so I defer to them). Lithium batteries are dangerous. Full stop. Tesla agrees. Everyone agrees. The chemistry is flammable, and the configuration makes short-circuits unduly likely. They are safe only if they are not damaged or jostled or not built ever so slightly wrong. Admitting this is not an attack on Mother Gaia, or those who love their EV. It's a call to find better options, and - in my case - avoid sleeping in a machine powered by them, when there is no road shoulder to stand on when they decide to burn my hull.

@@TheOnDeckChannel Hey, please don't take this as argumentative...but what piqued my concern in this video was something you discussed. The location of those batteries is at the top of the stairs, coming from the starboard-forward stateroom. The only exit, because the CE rating allowed them to ditch the lower hull exit. If a 100 pound battery goes full runaway, they will reach more than 1000 degrees in seconds. Everything around will flash and add to the conflagration. You got a huge, ultra hot fire at the top of the stairs that no fire extinguisher can ever put out. You have no way out of the hull, unless you can shimmy through a deck hatch (most US adults won't be able to pull that trick). How do you get out? FWIW, I have the same concerns in the L50 with the propane stove nearby. These are the kinds of things I am thinking about. I enjoy your channel and look forward to more. Thanks again.

I have sailed these. Not enough hand holds at sea. Stupid square corners to get thrown into. No hand holds in kitchen. Impossible to work at mast in a sea. Etc.
