OMG! Your explanation for getting the top of the line mattress for only your bed is hilarious. When the ex and I bought our first brand new home we went mattress shopping for the spare/guest bedroom. The salesperson kept trying to upsell us (I meant, why not, it's their jobs to do so?) and finally I made the comment that "I did not want a super comfy mattress for that room because then guests would want to stay longer than 2 or 3 days. It was our home, not a hostel!" The salesperson laughed so hard and loud the manager came over in fear then laughed with all of us. That plan worked for over 10 years!
@SailingWindTherapy3 жыл бұрын
Good plan! We figured 5-6 nights is a good visit. Not too short or long and our guests can still make it home and get an extra day to decompress before going back to work. It’s those retired friends we have to watch out for though. 😜

Wow! Kinda mind-boggling, but nice job going back through it. The first video I saw of yours was the walkthrough of all the changes and additions. The boat does look beautiful. Good taste, very neat, and wonderfully organized. The only thing missing for me was a mind-blowing total at the end. @@SailingWindTherapy Only if you don't put it in context of what you originally paid for the boat and what you think it's now worth after your investment. We went thru a similar exercise on our refit (ours was more restoration than upgrades) and while we spent around $100K, we bought the boat cheap enough that when we were done, the market value was still higher than what we had into it in total. But totally understand if you don't want to get into that level of disclosure. In the meantime, very impressive project on your part.
@SailingWindTherapy3 жыл бұрын
@@svechappe6075 thanks! We plan to live on the boat for many years and these modifications are going to make the experience tremendously better for starters. As far as the word “investment goes”…it’s a boat and of course not usually an appreciating asset. However in these times it makes a big difference and if we sold her now we feel we would get a lot of this money back. Thanks for the great comment and watching too!
@svechappe60753 жыл бұрын
@@SailingWindTherapy Totally get it. After our refit project was done and we moved onto the boat to sit out the pandemic, we discovered a bunch of "quality of life" projects we wanted to do and proceeded to spend a chunk more on those. They were actually more fun than the refit project, which was focused mostly on bringing the boat back to presentable condition.

I appreciate the insights on the costs involved in having everything professionally fabricated and installed. While I'm fully capable of doing the work myself, I'd rather pay someone else to get it done a lot faster, and with far less trouble and travel than I can...

Thank you for responding . You answered my question when you said you purchased from the mooringS. They would be one of the few that would commission the boats in a minimal way. This now explains why you have had to add things like radar. Normally radar, ais and a good chart plotter would be very basic installs. All the other things you did are fantastic and proper. I delivered a Leapard a year ago and sitting in the helm seat was terribly uncomfortable. The changes you made were perfect.
@SailingWindTherapy3 жыл бұрын
Also keep in mind that a Moorings boat almost always lives in the same region such us the BVI. For people chartering and sailing around the BVI, radar and ais is really not ever needed. No one is allowed to sail at night or in bad weather conditions.

When we put both of our boats (the first one was destroyed in Hurricane Irma) in The Moorings, we had them as crewed yachts. The income is based on the purchase price of the boat. The crewed yachts cost more (because the include a bunch more things) so you get a larger monthly check. But check out the vid above and then let us know what other questions you have. Super modern video! "I am Jeff and this is Adrienne".. This cannot nowadays really be assumed from just looking at these nice individuals. Great job ;-) But hey there, now I am further into the video and I am concerned about the "We like really big ones" and "He stuck it up there". I am not sure this is a safe space..

And you definitely didn’t hear the very final comment in the video at the last two seconds. Go back and see if you can make out what Jeff said 😳. He is certainly not the guy who worries about using proper pronouns (even though we both respect everyone’s feelings equally). 😊

Did you do the charter/ownership program through Just Catamarans? If so, would be really interested to hear your thoughts, and if that is a good path to ownership.
@SailingWindTherapy3 жыл бұрын
Hi Bill. Just Catamarans sells boats and works on boats but they don’t have a charter/ownership program. We went through The Moorings which is probably the largest charter company around. We personally had a great experience with it and it was a perfect path to ownership for us. Check out the video we did with Leopard where we spoke in detail of the experience (and also check out our very first video where we spoke about it too). If these don’t answer your questions then ping us back and we’d be happy to answer anything else. 😊 Leopard video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3LclZyjr5mHjdE Our first video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/noSyoHSplqZ2bsk

Thanks Stefano. Totally worth it for us! And since we came back to St. Pete for the summer (instead of our planned North East trip) I’ve been on the bike a lot! I kept my Road Glide and keep it at my in-laws house But I was missing it a lot while cruising and will always miss it. Going 8 instead of 80 is a different experience for sure!

If had to do over again, would you have done the same remodeling or just buy a newer/upgraded boat?
@SailingWindTherapy3 жыл бұрын
If you go back and watch our first video it might change your questions. 😊 kzbin.info/www/bejne/noSyoHSplqZ2bsk Also the upgrades we did are mostly not available from the factory. If one of your questions though is about the remodeling the starboard forward cabin into our utility room as opposed to buying an owners version then we can tell you with certainty that we would have done it the same way. I hope this answer helped.

@@SailingWindTherapy I supposed I meant after all the money you dropped in all the remodeling on this one after seeing your estimated total costs of everything in the comments. But, yes, that did answer my question and makes sense especially if it’s to make your life more convenient and comfortable and you can’t get those upgrades any other way on a new/er one. Thanks!

That forepeak was a captains quarters. It has a bed, USB ports, air conditioning, and led lighting. We use it as storage and as a place for our grand babies to sleep when they are aboard. The doors makes it extremely convenient and much more usable. Well worth it for us. Thanks for the question.

I also am fascinated with Solar and see many putting Bimini's without solar panels, It seems to me that the roofs are wasted space unless Solar panels are incorporated on them, why did you not put more solar on the Bimini knowing your thoughts about solar...
@SailingWindTherapy3 жыл бұрын
Great question. If you’re referring to the Bimini top over the helm station, it’s just too small. We have a sky light up there to view the Main. The rest of the space is just too small to go thru the expense to install a small panel. If you’re referring to the coach roof which is basically the whole roof, there are possibilities but limitations also. We are looking to install two 400w panels on the port aft portion of the roof. They should be far enough away from the boom so we can still work on the main when necessary. If we put them on the sloping forward part of the boat then we run the serious risk of the headsail sheets getting caught and ripping them off. Now I’m talking about the solid panels not the flexible walk-ons. The flexible ones are still just too small and expensive to justify installing. Hope that answers your question. 😊

How much did you pay for the boat?
@kirkbowers48893 ай бұрын
😁A Boat is a Hole in the Water, which you attempt to fill with Money. "Boat” is not word. “Boat” is an Acronym for: “Break Out Another Thousand.” If you have to ask how much it costs? , you can’t afford it. The second happiest day of a boat owner’s life is the day the boat is purchased. The happiest day of a boat owner’s life is the day the boat is sold! The ratio of time spent maintaining the boat to time spent using the boat is about 10 to 1. If you are a cruiser, it means you take your boat to exotic locations to work on it. The more exotic the location, the more serious the repair and the less likely that parts will be available there. Life is pretty Dry without a Boat.
