Such a great thing for college students to remember....go to school for skills, not to just get a degree! Wisdom comes from the younger people all of the time! Us older folks get such solace from seeing bright people taking over for us!!! So up lifting! Also EXCELLENT strategy to do the CMA, too!

One alternative: you can take your accounting undergrad degree and get a finance job for a few years after you graduate! Then have your employer pay for your CPA education requirements after that and do evening classes before taking the CPA exam. That way you 1) have a nice job right out of college 2) don't have to pay for grad school 3) have a Master's in Accounting 4) 2 to 3 years after undergrad you have your CPA.

That sounds like a great path. However isn’t it difficult to get a finance job unless you came from a good school?

@cameronlares there are plenty of "financial analyst" positions at pretty much any medium to large sized company in the world. For example, I got a job as a financial analyst for a clinical research company right out of college (I went to a decent state university). Anything like FP&A or enterprise finance or finance business partner would be what I am talking about. If you are looking to be a wealth advisor, or something more high stakes like that in the finance industry, then going to a nicer college probably helps with landing that job.

Very good interview! I just graduated myself and starting my accounting career. This podcast has been really interesting and a good source of knowledge for anyone starting their career. 10:14 My current accounting INFS class is having us work with QuickBooks Online and we have a made up business where we do all the bookkeeping that aligns with McGraw Hill Chapters that we cover. It’s pretty fun! Hopefully his acct INFS class has that implemented too whenever he takes it!
