Since you asked, gangs in California started with what is known as bandidos ( bandits ) among the Mexicans who lived here and fought the settling of the gabachos ( whites ) who started migrating here after the annexation of the south west from Mexico. Mexicans that lived here didn't like it so they started these bandidos gangs to rob them, fight them and even offing them. The first major gang goes back to the 1850's or and was known as the Vazquez gang. From there many barrios ( neighborhoods ) started forming to protect themselves from this new wave of migrants who were really settlers into California. This is because Mexico had officially gained it's independence in the early 1820's and all the south west states, California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, etc ... belonged to Mexico for about 25 years since it's independence from New Spanish Empire. To this day, there are Mexican barrios that date back to the early 1900's. There is one in particular that dates back to the 1800's and they are still around. They are known as Dog Town Rifa. I was raised worship Jesus, but Went to prison in the eighties. I'm quite sure you know how the story ended. I'm here to talk about it. Wouldn't give up this life for nothing.
