Great example story that fits the current AI perception. I went to a western art history course and learnt how they adapt optical technologies. But after photography became a thing, popularity of photorealistic artstyle was overtaken by stylized ones. And now, using photo references is one of the standard methods for artists to create or practice. It's better to adapt than to reject a new tool, it will become a norm eventually and I'll get ahead of anyone with all the help I can access.

I appreciate this video! I like seeing various products. Watching people use or review various applications is a rabbit hole I can defiantly go down. As I said in a live about AI, I agree that it may have certain spots parts of the creation process. I like the idea of using it for lists on ideas for the brainstorming process. Something to help spark the creative process. Good video as normal! 🙂

Most people use AI without knowing it for editing things like grammar. However, once you bring generative AI into the writing process then you are no longer writing. Yes you have an idea but if I told my idea to another author and they went and wrote a novel from that idea then I cannot honestly say that I wrote that novel. Neither can anyone who uses generative AI. It is just like if as an artist you used an AI art generator. You are the not the artist, AI is. You did not write this fantasy story about the elephant, the AI did. I will never support the use of generative AI in the writing process.

So I know this story isn't really what this video is about but I did have two odd thoughts about it that just kind of jumped out at me, the first is with the square cube law I'm not sure how that method would be enough for a creature of that size, unless they are producing significant extra surface area for the condensation rather than just retexturing the elephant's skin. The second is while both the Boabab tree and mathematical equation magic systems seem intriguing, they don't feel like they are part of one system, and the presence of that second system needs to be addressed even if it's not going to be gone into in any detail.

Yeah, the Boabab tree addresses a problem with generational memory. Without writing, you can't build on the knowledge of the previous generation with accuracy. Verbal teaching only takes you so far, because you can't send multiple copies of your knowledge to help people you've never seen. I didn't want elephants to be carrying around books or their equivalent, so I needed to come up with some way to externalize memory and the Boabab tree seemed like a great place to be able to store and retrieve knowledge. I need to work with it a little more to integrated it fully into the magic system, but basically because they have these hollow trunks (they can even store water in it), it seemed to me to be ideal. I just need to figure out some kind equation to go with it. Maybe fractals or something.

@@JustInTimeWorlds So two alternatives, the first is that it's a different magic system entirely, possibly one belonging to the boababs themselves maybe to do wit dreams or something. The second is to lean into the elephant's magic into their ultrasonic communication which already seems like a good way to mesh their biology with a highly mathematical magic system given the overlaps that already exist between music and math. So maybe less mathmatic runes and more the sorts of ripples you see if you put sand on a speaker playing a single continuous tone.

Would other animals be in this like hippopotamus and rhinos too

I'm in too minds. Those animals would exist, but I'm not sure I want them to have full blown symbolic language and maths as magic. I think the story would shine more if the elephants alone held that kind of power over their environment.

@JustInTimeWorlds I can see that. It was an idea. Seeing as elephants and hippos are the biggest land animals, it would be interesting to see how cultural different they would be

That is an interesting thought. I might play with it a bit in outlines and see what plot impact it has.

No lo sé ¿Usar IA? No sé yo si las IA estarán listas: Sacan información de sitios poco confiables y mezclaan cosas sin ton ni son.
