Massive props to Skellie for his 180 life turn around, esp after such a bitter blow with losing Gary. It would have been so easy to get lost in the anger and resentment but what does he do? Help others, look for reasons to make his children proud, reach out to other young kids who are going off the rails - a man who can admit is failures & turn his life to purpose for the positive growth of others now THAT is a real man & father.

@@Anaiyakeeper Thank you I love it when people who come from disadvantaged backgrounds, recognise the limitations and trauma in their own life and use it for positive growth. Although my life has not been as hectic as this individual, the afro carribean experience has been similar. From my experience I try to be the best father, husband, uncle, grand father and remind myself that I am not only representing my self, I am representing my community. The thing with the gangster lifestyle is that when you really drill down into the figures, you are not really making more than minimum wage when you take into account the amount of time you have to invest. I hope the young people see this and invest their time into becoming professional whether it through the academic or vocational route. They need to understand when people from their community get old, they need to see people from their own communities helping them. I know this will not save every young person but at least they can hear the message and come to their own conclusions.

We don't realise the trauma our parents go through and what their experiences have been growing up. Negative experiences cause them to put barriers up and they can become very bitter and agitated at the simplest thing causing them to lash out . This makes bonding with their children difficult. It took me a while to realise this about my mum. She was mistreated as a child by her mother and my dad wasn't fully committed to the family which put a massive strain on her. I believed my mum didn't love me as a child. It took me a while to learn that she was dealing with a lot.
@sazzieA1

I dont know if it's that parent don't love you. I find it hard to understand how you could not love what came out of you or was born of you. I think that's more about not loving themself. We repeat the mistakes of our parents if we don't understand who and what made them. Circumstances make ppl do things they never imagined doing. Like having sex with the guy keeping drugs in your house. I loved my mum endlessly. Miss her bad. I realise she was a product of her upbringing and beatings were a part of that. Found myself repeating that trauma. I remember having that conversation with my children and apologising for ever hitting them. They cried. I cried. When I hear others saying that old nonsense about don't spare the rod and spoil the child, and how they got beats and it never did them any harm, but it hurt, they bawled, and never did the thing again for fear of getting beats. If that's not harm I don't know what is. I'm so sorry that mum didn't replace those hits with hugs. I'm sending you some hugs till she is able to. You are such an inspiration and so real. Proud of you. May Gary RIEP. Love and light

I mean this completely positively: It's interesting how he's effectively repurposed his previous gang-grooming techniques to improve the lives of young people. @@ajhd95 100% agree! In wars there is always collateral damage. It doesn’t make it right in fact the opposite is true. However if there is a walking talking replica of an ex that has gone awry some single mothers are going to fall into that trap.
