"That woman wouldn't have said shit if she had a mouth full of it!" God, this scene is a master class of acting. You can literally see Clooney processing what he's looking at and the changes of his expressions and eyes and he's goes through every emotion from shock to horror to anger to sadness to pity to worry and back to anger. Awesome scene.

It’s interesting you bring that up because I was watching this with the commentary and Tarantino points out that in all Rodriguez’s movies he always has one character playing the dog. Where they are just there to be quiet and react to things other characters are doing. Richie is the dog in this scene and his reactions are like a dog who chewed up the carpet and now has to face their owners coming home.

Few things I love about this scene is the subtleties to it. The bank teller isn't a young gorgeous woman that Richie just couldn't resist, no she was a middle aged, some what heavy mom that gave off nearly no sex appeal yet guaranteed from the moment they kidnapped her, Richie had this in mind. He was a different class of criminal then Seth, he was a monster that enjoyed causing pain and suffering. In the opening scene they never talk about it but I'd bet that when they were hiding in the isles, each with a younger 20 something hostage, Richie groped or molested her in some way. The second thing is Seth pulling out the burger just to realize the hostage is gone. It means while out getting food he thought enough of her to get her a burger as well. And yes part of his anger here is worry about how crazy his brother is becoming, but a good part of it is because he promised this woman that if she played ball shed make it through. He didn't want to kill this woman unless it was necessary. He has a code and rape isn't any where near it. Seth has compassion to a degree but would kill if you needed killing. Ritchie was a psycho that killed because he could.

@@themedia1271 most rapists care deeply about what they're victims look like. Like Ted Bundy for instance had a preference for college age petite white brunettes with a part down the middle of their hair. It's all preference of course, but just like how you're attracted to certain qualities in an significant other, rapists are attracted to certain qualities in their victims. Doesn't mean they're not also oppurtunitists that attack an easy target. If bundy had a perfect oppurtunity to rape this women as conveniently as Richie did here would he? No doubt. Is it about power and control as well? Of course.

The surprise was fucking ace and unlike any other film I've ever watched even still (if there are others, I don't want to know because that'd completely ruin it if I did ever watch em, so can no-one try and enlighten me please? thanks). I completely thought it was just a crime film, a really well done one, but just a crime film nonetheless. If nothing else it's unique and that's something worth admiring in a time when pretty much every film that comes out is a remake of a classic, or a superhero film, or a romcom. Oh or a very shit horror film that relies purely on shock value or jump scares. Can't forget those ones.

The thing I love the most is the sheer disgust Seth sees in Richie's behavior. He doesn't care that it's his brother, he absolutely will not tolerate his habits. Granted, his reasons might be a bit more pragmatic than moral, but the fact that it does bother him is why I love Seth's character so much -- he has standards and principles, even as a criminal and he won't compromise them, not even for his own brother. That's some damn good writing right there.
@jimmy2k4o
@jimmy2k4o 3 жыл бұрын
You say that but Seth Hugs Ritchie in this scene. Infact Seth does nothing to Ritchie for this apart from telling him not to do it. While he knows that Ritchie will, he even mentions it to Jacob later. Seth definitely has standards and ethics, but he loves Ritchie more. If he was there he would have saved the teller from Ritchie, but he wouldn’t punish Ritchie. I think Ritchie knows Seth wouldn’t allow it and that’s why he waits until Seth leaves, and behaves himself around Juliet Lewis because Seth is there watching him. If what you said was totally true Seth would just kill Ritchie For two reasons: 1) being a sick fuck who deserves to die. 2) endangering their escape into Mexico with his erratic behaviour. But I think we know Seth wouldn’t ever kill Ritchie, no matter how many times Ritchie does something sick.

Another fucked up part is that Richie attempted to blame the woman. "When you left, she became a completely different person.". As if Seth was gonna just straight up believe his bullshit. Seth never believes Richie's bullshit but puts up with him because that's his brother. Seth knowing how vile and sick his brother is, still left him alone to look after the woman. But had somewhat a little hope that his brother wouldn't hurt her because he even brought back food for the woman. Angry that Richie killed this woman he promised would live, Angry that he left Richie alone with her and angry at himself for being careless.

This scene was the most disturbing and scary. 1:03 that's the best acting in the whole movie. Seth's reaction...trying to understand _why_ his brother would do such a thing. The way he so calmly and softly asks him, "Richard, what's wrong with you? What is the _matter with you?"_ Realizing what a monster he is, he blames himself first...it's heartbreaking. 1:43 You can see the reality hitting him right there. Glassy-eyed, some tears coming. And there was so much tension when Richie was eyeballing Kate later in the movie. I was scared for her. Those SHORT snips of the shots of the carnage in that room freaked me out. (I saw this movie when it came out at age 10... lol) But it was something in films that always terrified me more; aftermath. Seeing what happened, rather how it happened is a LOT scarier, which is why Se7en freaked me the fuck out, too.

One of my favorite scenes in all of cinema, hands down! A straight to the throat, dark look, into the divided beings of those who are evil and those who have morals. George Clooney's character is in no way a good guy within this film, himself is a murderer, crooked and violently hot headed but, then happens this moment. This scene nearly turns your negative impressions of him and shows him as a good guy after all. From first instance of being so confused why his brother is the way he is, seeking for an explanation, you see him slowly reach that boiling point of realizing there is no understanding his brother and just basically grabs him by the horns to say "you're sick, you're wrong, and i'm not like you." IMO the entire scene in itself could spin off clear away from what the movie actually is about and have a potential story of just that subject matter alone, a brother stuck with a monster for a sibling but still, unfortunately his brother.

I really enjoy watching characters like Seth. He’s clearly a bad guy who’s not above getting his hands dirty. But you can still see where some of his more redeeming qualities lie. I also love when Richie says, "It's not your fault, its her fault!" Like he is just completely devoid of human emotion and reality and how he makes light of the fact that he just raped and murdered someone, like he spilled a cup of coffee on the floor and has no paper towels to clean it up is a true testament to QT's acting chops and having met QT in person and saying to him that Richie was one of my favorite characters and his reaction and then his other reaction shows the true genius of how his mind works both on and off set.

In a movie with vampires, this is the most haunting one

The first half of this movie was excellent, but as entertaining as the vampire stuff was this was far more intriguing. Kind of felt like two different movies spliced into one, and not in a good way lol

This scene is still the most disturbing out of the whole film for me, Quentin played a sociopath so well

We’ll never know, but I always assumed Richie shot her in the face FIRST, THEN he raped her. Pretty twisted dude.

this movie seemed so awesome before the vampire crap. really chilling, a quiet, pensive, no country for old men vibe and a very compelling set-up and characters. the sudden change into a chaotic shoot 'em up was just an abrupt end to everything being built up. in another movie it would be fun, but here, with the potential set up, it was just frustrating

I can see why Quentin was given the part of Richie, he does look like he could be Clooney's unhinged sibling.

@Seth Wellington Exactly. The first half of the movie was great. I don't have any idea why they thought the 2nd half of the movie flowed well with the first half...smh. Seems like two completely different movies. What a waste😩

@Seth Wellington yea, I honestly think they just ran out of ideas💁😄 and they had to resort to some vampire foolery. They seriously could have came up with something better than that for the second half though...😩

@@mmdmmj1 It's not just that it was cheesy because of vampires, it's because of how they did the vampires. It was absolutely ridiculous. Playing body part guitars. Lmfao. Made absolutely no sense

FilthyManatee Lenny wasn’t a rapist though. And Tarantino’s character knew what he was doing was wrong. He’s a rapist and a murderer. Lenny was just slow.
