@mbshoedoc2 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much. This brand makes Blake stitch only and personally I think a good Blake pair is a great addition to your collection. Sure GYW shoes can be resoled forever and a Blake only 5-6 times or so but honestly on any shoe after about 5-6 resoles the uppers are likely trashed. You don't need all GYW in the collection...just avoid cemented soles and you're good

Fantastic! Honestly I would've remoisturized and polished them immediately after they were stripped. So beautiful!

I totally understand what you mean after I strip them it was such an interesting color I was also tempted to just shine them up. I think I actually said that while I was working on them don't remember if it made it in the final video cut or not.if only I could have five pairs of them I would want to do something different each time.

Great video, Really love seeing how you transformed from almost plain green to this beautiful fall color palet and how you achieve the mirror shine. Very inspirational and certainly giving ideas for my own shoes. Did ‘t even realize you could achieve such tranformation. I never made it beyond using black polish on burgundy color to achieve some shading effects. I need to up my game now. Keep bringing these videos. Greetings from the Netherlands

Came from your insta story...fantastic job, Michael! I dyed my first pair a few weeks ago. Turned out pretty good but the toe won't shine lol I think I put on too much dye and didn't let it set right away. Great idea using a makeup brush...I'm gonna have to pick me up one haha

@mbshoedoc5 жыл бұрын
Too much dye should not affect the shine. I wonder if it is over saturated with cream or if you used too much water when waxing. I would let it sit a day and try again.

That is a genius color transformation Sir! I am stunned......guess I am falling in love with this kind of total color re-do patinas. The overall shoe feels nice already even before you apply and cream polish. The final outcome is even stunning. To what degree do you think the cream do to the color changing? I am always considering cream polish as a minor effect when it comes to changing colors.
@mbshoedoc4 жыл бұрын
The cream is very minor but the hermes red in particular seems rather potent and can really create some change. Use it with caution 👍

Hi, great job, I got a blue magnanni leather belt, want to turn it light brown, what dye would you recommend ? (just like the color to the left of my post with the "F" in the middle.
@mbshoedoc4 жыл бұрын
Honestly I would not attempt to go from blue to brown. When you strip the blue belt it's going to still be pale blue and when you add yellow or even light brown it's going to lean olive green. It will be very difficult to get the color you want and by the time you buy all the acetone and dyes to do it you would be better off buying a brown belt.
@freepomeroon4 жыл бұрын
@@mbshoedoc Hey thanks for the quick reply
@mbshoedoc4 жыл бұрын
@@freepomeroon no problem. It's tough to answer for sure without seeing the belt. How dark is it. Then it just depends on how light it will strip which you don't know until you try it.
@scottgoessling4 жыл бұрын
Great work. Thank you for sharing. Do you water down the dyes (in the bowl) before applying them or do you use them full strength from the bottle?
@mbshoedoc4 жыл бұрын
I mostly use them straight. When I do dilute them it is with denatured alcohol from Lowes or HD etc, not water. These are alcohol based dyes. That being said each time I have tried to dilute the dyes like that I have not been happy with the consistency of them. Saphir and Angelus make a neutral base dye that is good for diluting and mixing but it is so expensive compared to a quart of denatured alcohol. I have yet to find the best option. I do frequently mix dyes to get a new color and that works perfectly well.
@mbshoedoc4 жыл бұрын
@@AMR-zo5ut I have not personally found vastly superior results with denatured alcohol. I think it does ok. The neutral dyes from Saphir work better but at a much higher cost. I haven't done too much diluting and will have to play around with it more.

Can you do it to a black shoe Sir?
@mbshoedoc5 жыл бұрын
Black shoes are notoriously difficult to strip so you can't change the color up much. Best to start with the lightest shoe possible.

Is that shoe is veg tan? And what kind of color is it?
@mbshoedoc3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if it is veg tanned. You would have to check with the manufacturer Thomas Bird. As far as what kind of color...its a custom patina I created using various dyes. I use Fiebing dyes the most but there was some Saphir used on this one as well.
